Our Values StrengthRespectWellbeingCulture Sustainability Good governance Role descriptionReporting to the Ranger Manager, you will play a crucial role in the conservation and management of natural resources in the South-West region of Western Australia. In this role, you will supervise a team of Rangers, undertake a combination of fieldwork, community engagement, and environmental education, aimed at preserving the unique ecosystems across land and marine environments.
Location Bunbury, however, travel throughout the Gnaarla Karla Boodja region and the South West of WA, will be required.
Hours Full time – permanent, generally worked between Monday to Friday however weekends and public holidays may be required from time to time
DutiesEnvironmental management Plan, coordinate, and supervise the regular monitoring and assessment of land and sea ecosystems, including flora and fauna assessments, effectiveness or weed control programs, and success of revegetation activities. Implement and manage restoration and rehabilitation initiatives. Provide an active role in managing invasive species (plant and animal) and monitoring for changes in environment. Marine management Organise and support community events, such as beach clean-up days.Support volunteers to contribute to the wider Ranger Program. Collaborate with stakeholders and government agencies to promote marine conservation. Participate and host educational workshops on the marine environment. Community engagement Develop and deliver educational programs and workshops for local communities, schools, and volunteer groups.Create and enhance partnerships and engage with the Aboriginal community, local stakeholders, and conservation groups to promote land and sea stewardship. Develop and deliver community events to enhance awareness and participation in conservation efforts.Support program initiatives such as on-country camps, development of tourism initiatives, and cultural burning programs. Research and reporting Supervise the collection and maintenance of records related to biodiversity, habitat condition, and conservation initiatives. Support the Ranger Manager to communicate findings to stakeholders and funding bodies through progress monitoring. Field operations Provide supervision in the development and maintenance of walking trails, signage, and other visitor facilities in conservation areas. Supervise the Ranger team to undertake patrols to monitor compliance with environmental regulations and assess visitor safety. Use relevant tools and technologies (such as GPS, field cameras, and data collection apps) for effective data gathering and reporting. Selection Criteria Essential Aboriginality is an essential criterion under Section 50(d).Possession of a valid driver's licence and the ability to operate four-wheel drive vehicles. Knowledge of local ecosystems, flora, fauna, and conservation issues affecting the Soth-West region of Western Australia. Certificate II or Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management, or similar.Experience in supervising and mentoring employees. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills in a cross-cultural context. Experience working collaboratively as part of a team. Previous experience in land and/or sea management, conservation, or a similar role. Desirable First Aid/Senior First Aid. Fire management/cultural burning experience. Experience and competence in computer skills and technology, including GIS.Experience in administering budgets and monitoring expenditure.
