Randwick City Council is an innovative and progressive Council committed to serving our vibrant community on the eastern beaches of Sydney. Our community Development Team is seeking an Aboriginal Cultural Engagement Specialist.
Purpose: The Aboriginal Cultural Engagement Specialist is a critical role for Council that fosters and strengthens Council's relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders. The role is responsible for ensuring Council appropriately and consistently engages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and community representatives in Council's planning and decision-making processes, ensuring the voice of community is reflected in significant projects, plans and in the ongoing development of the LGA.
About the role: Collaborate with key local Aboriginal stakeholders on the implementation of significant initiatives, projects, plans and strategies that celebrate, promote and/or protect the unique Aboriginal cultural heritage of the Randwick LGA. Establish and facilitate appropriate consultative structure(s) with community Elders, representatives and organisations to ensure consistent and appropriate community engagement and advice. Collaborate with government, community and internal stakeholders on the co-design and delivery of local Closing the Gap Priority Reforms and Targets, aligned to Council's Reconciliation Commitment. About you: Deep knowledge and appreciation of the cultural and social needs of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people connected to the Randwick LGA. Demonstrated continuing respect and support for Aboriginal cultural practices and experience working with the Bidjigal and Gadigal community who have occupied this area of the Sydney Coast.
