About the Division / Team
Our Hunter Valley network primarily services the Hunter Valley coal chain – the world's largest thermal coal export operation – by providing an efficient and reliable rail transportation system between mines and the Port of Newcastle. We manage the movement of around 250 trains per day on our network. Around half of these being coal trains and the other half comprised of passenger services, as well as grain, general intermodal, and other bulk freight trains.
About the Opportunity
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Rail Equipment Engineer (Mobile Plant) to join our National Plant Team in Newcastle, NSW. In this newly created, hands-on role you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our mobile plant, road rail vehicles and rolling stock assets. Your primary responsibilities will encompass engineering and technical support, performance testing, effective problem identification, investigation & resolution, change management, and more! Responsibilities: Investigating and resolving operational performance and maintenance reliability challenges with new and existing equipment to promote safety, cost efficiency and productivity.Coordinating and conducting operational and network interface performance tests and commissioning activities.Ensuring the compliance of new and existing mobile plant, road rail vehicles and the rolling stock (work train) fleet with WH&S, regulatory and technical performance standards.Supporting the roll-out of a multi-million dollar, 10-year strategic plant and equipment replacement plan.Developing, reviewing, and refining plant processes, standards, guidelines, and forms to enhance safety and maintenance performance.Analysing and reviewing engineering reports, calculations, and drawings for mechanical designs and modifications.Collecting, monitoring, and analysing data related to fleet operational and maintenance performance to drive improvement opportunities.Identifying and evaluating opportunities for the purchase of innovative machinery to improve plant mechanization, productivity, safety, and reduce operating costs.Leading, coaching, and mentoring plant maintenance staff to ensure team goals are met.Participating in projects and undertaking other duties as requested.About You
To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:
Essential Selection Criteria: Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.Well-developed and structured approach to problem solving.Demonstrated ability to work in a team, assist and promote the team, and drive effective outcomes in a fast-changing environment.Current Class C driver's licence.Recent graduates who can demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities are encouraged to apply.Desirable Selection Criteria: Working knowledge of mobile plant related workplace health and safety regulations.Experience in major railway plant & rolling stock maintenance and operations.Knowledge of the railway operating environment and applicable engineering standards.What we offer
