Responsible for the receipt of calls and rapid and accurate dispatch of police resources in accordance with standard operational procedures.

The Fixed-term and Casual Employment Register is designed to provide Radio Dispatch Services with a pool of experienced and skilled people who are able to undertake the duties of Radio Dispatch Operator (Band 3/4) work at short notice on a fixed-term or casual basis.
Applications are invited for fixed-term or casual employment for periods of up to 12 months.
DutiesWell-developed radio/telephone communication experience, preferably gained within a time-critical emergency services or a similar environment.Ability to make rapid decisions in a crisis situation exercising sound judgement and discretion.Ability to operate in a team environment that is subject to work flow pressures and stressful situations.Acceptable keyboard/computer skills with the ability to determine work priorities in accordance with operational procedures.Able to quickly acquire knowledge of police operations and services provided as well as Tasmanian geography/demography.A thorough understanding of confidentiality obligations.Pre-Employment ChecksThe Head of the State Service has determined that a person nominated for appointment to this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion, or transfer.

obtaining an advantage by deception);Violent crimes and crimes against the person;Malicious damage and destruction to property;Trafficking of narcotic substance;Training RequirementsPrior to any engagement as a casual Radio Dispatch Operator you are required to complete the Radio Dispatch Operator training, which comprises two phases.
The first phase is a four week training period where you will perform day duty (full time hours) 8:00am to 4:00pm with a 24 minute lunch break each Monday to Friday, for a total of 76 hours per fortnight.
During this time you will be paid at the rate of $39.12 per hour (which includes a 25% casual loading) in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award, Appendix 17 - Radio Dispatch Operators, Level 1 (B1-R2-4).
Phase one is training and assessment in a classroom environment.
In order to successfully complete the first phase you need to demonstrate operational competency in all of the criteria assessed.
Prior to the end of this phase of training, a suitability assessment will be conducted by the Officer-in-Charge and you are required to successfully complete this phase before proceeding to phase two.
The second phase involves on-the-job training in the work environment where you need to demonstrate operational competency in all of the criteria assessed.
Upon successful completion of the training program you may be included on the casual register.
