The SES Strategy and Planning Directorate is responsible for long-term strategy and short-term planning, as well as the implementation and management of governance systems that support effective and transparent decision making.
The Strategy Unit provides direction and guidance for the long-term priorities, goals, and objectives of the SES by developing and implementing strategies, frameworks, and tools, and evaluating the performance and impact of the current and future initiatives at a service level.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will lead and manage strategic initiatives that contribute to delivering business intelligence capabilities to guide evidence-based decision-making. You will be responsible for leading and undertaking collaborative research and data analysis to identify, develop, and prioritise capability and resourcing initiatives that support the needs of SES and the community now and into the future. You will also contribute to developing and implementing strategic frameworks, processes, and guidelines.
Your key accountabilities The core capability requirements for this role are:
Develop, implement and evaluate organisational strategies and strategic projects to anticipate, build and maintain contemporary capabilities that deliver on the SES vision, purpose, and goals. Work across business units to lead the identification, assessment and prioritisation of SES capability and resourcing future needs, developing recommendations that guide investment in new initiatives in line with SES' strategic priorities. Lead and deliver strategic foresight initiatives, including environmental and horizon scanning products, and developing tools and services to support and guide business intelligence. Undertake research and analysis and provide strategic advice to support and inform business intelligence, strategy and capability development, and guide decision making. Prepare, evaluate and review complex reports, briefs, submissions, and other correspondence on issues and initiatives in accordance with departmental requirements. Undertake stakeholder engagement, building and maintaining productive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve outcomes with a commitment to effective service delivery. Promote and support a multidisciplinary approach by developing an understanding of SES roles and responsibilities, and working collaboratively across teams to embed organisational strategy, frameworks, and processes and build a strong evidence-based intelligence, research, and innovation culture. Role Requirements: Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience Knowledge and experience in futures studies, data analysis and/or decision support, strategic, operational and/or business intelligence, and/or project management. Experience developing and implementing strategic plans, frameworks, services, and products relating to disasters and emergencies. Other This role supports SES operational activity through representation in the State Disaster Coordination Centre, SES State Coordination Centre, SES Regional Coordination Centres and/or Emergency Operations Centres as required. It is expected that the incumbent will participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster during emergency operations. This may require work outside of normal hours (e.g. night shift), including weekends, working extended hours and may include travel to rural and remote communities, intrastate or interstate travel as necessary and/or deployment activities to other parts of the state.
