Provide high level epidemiological advice and technical support within Queensland Health and key partner organisations on communicable disease interventions and research; and contribute to research and knowledge in epidemiology and peer-reviewed publication of findings. This is an exciting permanent full-time opportunity to join the Public Health Intelligence Branch.
As the Senior Epidemiologist with the Public Health Intelligence Branch (PHI), you will undertake high level communicable disease epidemiology, surveillance, and research for a range of communicable diseases including blood borne viruses, gastrointestinal, mycobacterial, vaccine preventable, sexually transmissible, vector borne, and zoonotic diseases.
The successful person The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Science (Health Science) (Major in Epidemiology or Biostatistics) or Bachelor of Public Health (Major in Epidemiology), from a recognised tertiary institution. While not mandatory, the ideal candidate will hold a postgraduate degree in epidemiology or biostatistics related to health, or equivalent. Experience in blood-borne viruses and/or sexually transmissible infections will be an advantage. The successful applicant will have high level knowledge, expertise, and skill in epidemiology including research and demonstrated high level communication skills to produce oral and written presentations and maintain collaborations with a range of stakeholders. You will demonstrate a high level ability to review, critically appraise, and translate epidemiological data and literature into information that public health practitioners, policy makers, other clinicians, and the public can understand and use.

The Branch provides public health information systems used across Queensland Health and plays a key role in state-wide surveillance, monitoring, and reporting for public health within Queensland and Federal Governments.
