The Director, Financial Assistance is responsible for the strategic leadership of multidisciplinary, client-focused teams in the delivery of services to victims of crime, to facilitate the timely provision of support and financial assistance under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009 (VOCAA).
The Director, Financial Assistance Unit will foster a strong organisational culture, conducive to best practice in the way that VAQ delivers critical financial assistance to victims of crime.
Your Key Responsibilities: Provide effective strategic leadership to the operational functions of VAQ staff and foster a culture of excellence in the delivery of high-quality responsive services to victims of violent crime in Queensland. Drive strategic and organisational change and lead a positive culture of continuous improvement and evaluation to ensure services provided by Victim Assist Queensland continually improve and are delivering public value to the government and community. Operationalise the elements of the VAQ Strategic Plan which relate to service delivery, to ensure that best practice is delivered to vulnerable Queenslanders. In accordance with the strategic direction set by the Executive Director, exercise the powers and functions relevant to the role and provide high quality authoritative advice and submissions on complex and sensitive issues relating to the applications for financial assistance under the VOCAA. Implement and monitor decision making frameworks and policies to ensure Victim Assist staff make authoritative, fair, well-reasoned and timely decisions when exercising statutory powers in accordance with legislation. Contribute to and participate in the corporate responsibilities and functions of the Victim Support Division, of which Victim Assist is a business unit. Lead and monitor the deployment of reform initiatives in respect of VAQ's Financial Assistance Scheme, as directed by the Executive Director.
