The Safety and Security Equipment Coordinator provides assistance to the Correctional Centre management team regarding the procurement, storage, handling, maintenance, disposal and document control of weapons, ammunition, keys, tools and safety and security related equipment.
This includes liaising with service and contract providers.
Responsibilities Maintain the appropriate storage of weapons, ammunition, chemical agents, keys and safety and security equipment including registers that detail the procurement, issue and disposal of keys, ammunition, chemical agents and other security equipment. Maintain the appropriate documentation relevant to the purchase and storage of weapons, ammunition, chemical agents, keys and safety and security equipment. Coordinate the issue and receipt of weapons, ammunition, chemical agents, keys and safety and security equipment. Ensure that weapons, ammunition, chemical agents, keys and safety and security equipment is maintained in accordance with procedures. Coordinate and document the disposal of weapons, ammunition, chemical agents, keys and safety and security equipment. Provide advice to management that enables them to effectively identify and manage its compliance risk and obligations. Implement departmental processes to manage the issue and use of all keys within the correctional centre that ensures a safe and secure environment for prisoners, staff and the community. Assist the Correctional Manager, Centre Services to ensure risk is identified and managed through the escalation of identified issues to the appropriate centre manager. Manage the procurement, storage, handling, maintenance and disposal of weapons, ammunition, chemical agents, safety and security equipment and maintain accurate records. Ensure operational readiness and administration of safety and security equipment and correctional service facility armoury and secure storage facilities as appropriate. Provide submission/s for specialised equipment and make recommendations regarding suitability of equipment for use within the centre. Ensure the centre maintains an accurate weapons asset records system which includes an asset replacement plan for all weapons and specialised equipment and tracks the issue, deployment and return of weapons, ammunition, chemical agents, keys and safety and security equipment. Ensure the centre maintains high standards relating to the use, management and control of armouries and the associated equipment that is in accordance with associated departmental operating practices. Liaise with the centre's Staff Training Coordinator to ascertain whether staff engaged in the use of weapons have the necessary qualifications and accreditations. Ensure strict guidelines are complied with for the procurement and safe storage of weapons, ammunition and security equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures. Monitor compliance across the centre in relation to the required standards for weapons and ammunition usage, storage and usage of chemical agents, keys and safety and security equipment. Ensure the centre maintains an effective key control system that allows for the recording of key procurement, issue, handling, storage, disposal and document control of all centre keys. Monitor compliance with key control procedures and ensure procedures and practices are in accordance with the provisions of the standard operating procedure for Key Management. Liaise with external agencies such as the Queensland Police Service, Fire, Ambulance and Health in relation to safety and security equipment matters. Liaise with external providers and contractors regarding key access requirements, repairs or alterations to security related items. Support and participate in systems assurance and compliance reviews in accordance with departmental requirements and processes and undertake checks and audits in accordance with procedural requirements. Contribute to the achievement of key targets for the centre by providing information and data on emerging trends and risks based on centre data. Conduct security compliance audits for the centre with an awareness of the Agency's Risk Management Framework and report findings to centre management. Applications to remain current for 12 months.
