There's opportunity around every corner and the support to help you achieve your goals.About the role:Reporting to the Senior Software Engineer, the QA Engineer will focus on ensuring the quality and reliability of software that supports Chrysos' PhotonAssay minerals analysis systems. In addition to comprehensive manual and automated testing, this role emphasizes the development of effective testing strategies, integration of automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, and continuous improvement of QA processes.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quality assurance, with expertise in both manual and automated testing, and experience working in cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS). They will be passionate about delivering high-quality, reliable, and user-friendly systems.What you will do:Manual and Automated TestingDesign, implement, and execute comprehensive manual test cases to validate software functionality and performance.Develop and maintain automated test scripts, integrating them into CI/CD pipelines to ensure rapid feedback on code changes.Test Strategy and Planning:Create detailed test plans and strategies for new and existing features, ensuring thorough test coverage across functional, regression, and performance testing.Identify critical workflows and edge cases through exploratory testing.Defect Identification and Resolution:Log and track software defects, working closely with the development team to ensure timely resolution.Perform root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues and improve overall system reliability.Quality Assurance Processes and Best Practices:Advocate for and implement QA best practices, ensuring consistency and efficiency in testing processes.Contribute to improving test frameworks, tools, and methodologies.Documentation and Reporting:Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for test plans, test cases, and test results.Provide detailed reports on testing progress, coverage, and defect trends to stakeholders.Cross-functional Collaboration:Collaborate closely with software engineers, product managers, and scientists to ensure alignment of testing efforts with project goals.Support system validation in staging and production environments by conducting final quality checks and assisting with troubleshooting as needed.Contribute to a culture that values collaboration, technical excellence and on-going staff learning and development.Support the development of a strong OH&S culture.Who you are:EssentialA tertiary qualification in software engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience.At least 3 years of experience in a quality assurance role, with exposure to both manual and automated testing.Proven ability to design and execute detailed manual test cases to validate software functionality, performance, and usability.Proficiency in test automation tools such as Cypress, Selenium, or similar.Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including functional, regression, and performance testing.Knowledge of API testing tools like Postman or SoapUI for backend services.Basic scripting skills for test automation using languages such as Python, JavaScript, or similar.Proficiency in bug tracking and reporting using tools like Azure DevOps, JIRA, Bugzilla, or similar.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality software.Experience in documenting test plans, test cases, and test results to ensure traceability and knowledge sharingDesirableExperience with performance and load testing tools such as JMeter, Locust, or similar.Knowledge of security testing best practices and tools for web applications.Exposure to hardware-software integration testing.Understanding of modern DevOps practices and tools, including Docker to support test environments.Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions for integrating automated tests.Knowledge of Linux systems, including basic command-line usage and troubleshooting.Who we are (Our values):Safety is a Non-Negotiable - Safety isn't just a value—it's our way of life.
