An exciting temporary opportunity has become available for a Principal Engineer (Civil) to join the Technical Services team, Far North District, based in Cairns. The Preconstruction team is responsible for providing subject matter expertise and assurance of preconstruction projects and services as components of transport infrastructure projects.

We are seeking a skilled civil engineer with demonstrated experience in project management and supervising a team of project managers and engineers.
Working in one of the most unique locations in Australia, this role offers the opportunity to deliver a diverse range of projects in urban and rural/remote environments. You will also provide leadership and mentoring to support the growth and development of graduate engineers within the district.

In the role of Principal Engineer (Civil) you will oversee and manage the procurement, administration and delivery of preconstruction activities for construction projects. The role provides critical assurance and coordination functions for ensuring quality documentation and deliverables are provided on time and on budget. Preconstruction activities are required for projects ranging from programmed maintenance through to large-scale capital works. This role will engage with the internal district planning, design and delivery teams as well as external design consultants to enhance the district outcomes.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Provide and apply high level engineering and project management expertise in preconstruction activities, including risk identification and management to ensure delivery of project outcomes, fit-for-purpose design and value for money is achieved. Apply expert engineering knowledge to evaluate suitability of design solutions identified in planning phase in relation to site and budget constraints, design standards and fit-for-purpose outcomes. Collaborate with internal project managers to provide preconstruction advice and quality assurance. Apply program management capability to monitor and manage delivery of the preconstruction program. Ensure all associated preconstruction disciplines (for example but not limited to, environmental, cultural heritage, geotechnical) are identified and incorporated where necessary to ensure each project is able to be designed and delivered as planned. Oversee the procurement of preconstruction tasks to ensure TMR policy and procedural compliance are adhered to. Manage and coordinate team resource allocation with the expectation that you would encourage effective teamwork and foster a positive attitude toward the achievement of organisational objectives. Identify and manage networks and alliances of all stakeholders and manage the expectations and issues of all parties, including identifying possible political and high-risk matters to ensure they are dealt with in a timely and professional manner. Qualifications: A Washington Accord accredited four-year degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia. Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory for appointment to the position; however, applications will also be considered if evidence is provided that an assessment for RPEQ has commenced. Current holder of Class C driver's license. Must be eligible to work in Australia. Generous employer superannuation contribution - up to 12.75%
