QBuild is a vital part of Queensland's $59 billion building and construction industry. As the Queensland Government's builder, QBuild plays an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets.
The General Manager Operations reports to the Assistant Director-General and is responsible for working closely with the General Manager, Strategy and Planning as well as all Executive Directors within QBuild to ensure there continues to be a shared overview of the business unit's strategic and operational objectives and to ensure these are implemented in a consistent and coordinated manner.
This role requires you to build and maintain strong relationships with all relevant stakeholders to ensure consistent and cohesive achievement of customer requirements in the delivery of significant programs and projects in an environment of competing and changing client priorities.
This role also has the strategic oversight of Modern Methods of Construction delivery out of the QBuild Rapid Accommodation and Apprenticeship Centres located in Cairns and Brisbane.
Specific responsibilities include: Ensure future construction management strategies and work practices embrace a performance culture and evidence-based management approach which focuses on productivity and profitability while meeting customer desired time, cost and quality outcomes. Direct and lead the development and implementation of integrated contracts and procurement strategies, systems, and services that support and improve QBuild's commercial sustainability. Pro-actively promote and maintain a high performance and continuous improvement-oriented workplace culture consistent with departmental values and QBuild's culture of being Connected, Customer Centric, Contemporary and Caring. Work collaboratively with the QBuild Leadership Team and Board of Management to drive an operating approach and QBuild culture that supports implementation of programs and projects with a strong integration of all elements of QBuild strategy, policy, program design, development and delivery of building, construction and maintenance services. Direct and lead the development, implementation and monitoring of business strategies for business compliance and financial management. Mandatory Requirement Construction related background either through trade or tertiary studies is required for this position.
What we are looking for The essential requirements for this role are:
Success as a leader in a large and complex organisation with superior leadership ability. Extensive construction experience across the public, private and/or not for profit sector and a strong background in large-scale construction program implementation, service delivery, costing and commercial pricing strategies, and customer service and relationship management. A proven track record as an agent of change in challenging environments and in fostering a confident and capable workforce. Outstanding judgement, high-level integrity, strong agility to adapt to a constantly changing environment, a strong achievement orientation including a firm focus on continuous improvement along with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
