QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Brain and Mental Health, and Population Health. Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.
About Your Lab:
The Flow Cytometry & Imaging Facility provides an array of cutting-edge flow cytometry and microscopy platforms in support of research at QIMR Berghofer and for contract clinical trial work. The Flow Cytometry Facility is accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard by NATA and performs sample preparation and immunophenotyping for contract clinical trial work. The Flow Cytometry & Imaging Facility is part of the Scientific Services Division at QIMR Berghofer.
Role Purpose / Responsibilities:
Applications are invited for a Flow Cytometry Analyst to join the Flow Cytometry & Imaging Facility.
The following duties will apply:
Prepare PBMC samples and perform peptide stimulation protocols. Stain samples for immunophenotyping and flow cytometry data acquisition. Operate spectral and conventional flow cytometers and manage data collection using flow cytometry acquisition software. Analyse flow cytometry data using various specialised software tools. Assist facility and research staff in the flow cytometry and imaging facility as required. Assist in maintaining lab inventory, restocking supplies, and ensuring regular maintenance and cleanliness of the flow cytometry facility and clinical laboratory. Monitor equipment performance, troubleshoot issues, and carry out routine maintenance in the flow cytometry facility. Conduct work in accordance with existing NATA accreditation and quality management system. Follow and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Ensure the proper collection, management, and storage of scientific data in compliance with QIMR Berghofer Information Technology guidelines. Model and promote excellence and integrity, adhering to the highest quality and ethical standards. Ensure work practices comply with the requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act, related legislative requirements and the Institute's Work Health & Safety (WH&S) policies and procedures. About you:
To be successful in this position you are required to have:
Bachelor of Science (or equivalent). Ability to work outside of the spread of ordinary hours (6am–6pm) for two days per week. Proficient in preparing samples for flow cytometry assays, and sample staining for immunophenotyping. Strong ability to work with and adapt to advanced technologies. Experience in immunology and/or cell biology. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse range of individuals, including researchers, external service providers, and the public. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Outstanding organisational skills, with proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines. Comprehensive understanding of safe work practices and procedures. Experience with both conventional and spectral flow cytometry analysers. Experience in peptide stimulation protocols and intracellular cytokine staining. Remuneration: Salary range is $93,651 to 101,400 plus super and generous salary packaging. This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 9 months.
