Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.
About The Team:
The Business Development Unit provides the interface between researchers and commercial partners and is involved in all aspects of business and portfolio planning for commercial projects running within QIMR Berghofer.
This includes direct involvement in shaping projects, leading discussions with industry partners and proactively introducing new business opportunities to QIMR Berghofer.
On-going advancement of QIMR Berghofer is resulting in its bespoke resources becoming of commercial value outside of the traditional research-academic structure.
Programs and departments such as Q-Gen, Scientific Services contract research and developing centres can be provided in exchange for income and are defined as commercial services.
Users/customers of the service may be institutional staff, the public or external organisations.
Part of the Business Development Unit's role is to manage and provide support to the commercial services in order to optimise their success.
Role Purpose / Responsibilities:
Applications are invited for an experienced Commercial Services Associate to join the Business Development team working closely with the Commercial Services Manager.
You will be responsible for maintaining sustainable and productive relationships with existing and future commercial clients of the commercial services at QIMR Berghofer.
Work with commercial services and their external clients to execute agreements, work plans, and then manage projects in both scientific and financial aspects.
You will be able to utilize an understanding of science, the science industry and the fundamentals of commercial operations to write business cases that support QIMR Berghofer initiatives.
Participate as a key team member in the Business Development Unit, contributing to day to day goals for the unit through effective communication and collaboration.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Tertiary qualifications in a life science discipline or related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant skills and experience Business development, finance, research partnership or external relations experience in the life science sector Proven track record of achieving success in sales/business environments and recognising commercial opportunities within life sciences industry Experience writing business cases and documents to support projects and funding requests.
Great communication skills evidenced from working across varied management, customer and stakeholder structures Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to realise new opportunities and grow productive partnerships Good project management skills with the ability to define project objectives, monitor progress, and deliver results Remuneration: Salary range is $118,701 to $127,109 plus super and generous salary packaging.
This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for two (2) years.
