About the Position The Opera Australia PR Department is responsible for the generation of media coverage to promote the full program of mainstage operas in both Sydney and Melbourne, along with the National Tour, special events and one-off projects, to local, national and international media.
We are seeking a full-time Publicist to join the team, who will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive PR campaigns, drafting and distributing media materials, managing contacts databases, tracking coverage and assisting with media calls, interview schedules and photo shoots.
This is a full-time, permanent position.
You must be available for some evening and weekend work from time to time.
Key Areas of Focus Publicity Develop and implement public relations campaigns to raise awareness of and drive ticket sales for productions, events and special projects for both Sydney and Melbourne seasons. Maintain excellent relations with arts, culture, lifestyle, news and tourism journalists around Australia. Write and distribute media releases, pitch stories and create interview, photo and filming opportunities to publicise OA productions and events. Manage media calls, interviews, photo and film shoots, launches and opening night red carpets as required. Coordinate production photography. Work with the OA Marketing Dept to ensure consistency of messaging, and to maximise media opportunities via social media as appropriate. Administration Maintain media and VIP/celebrity invite lists and database. Track media coverage and compile reports as required. Reconcile invoices and track expenses. All Opera Australia employees are expected to act and advocate for the highest levels of ethical standards and integrity including compliance with Opera Australia policy and relevant legislation, as well as comply with OA Work, Health & Safety policies.
About You The ideal candidate will have an outgoing personality, possess highly sophisticated interpersonal communication skills, empathy and emotional intelligence, diplomacy, respectfulness, a positive, can-do attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure, combined with a proficiency in public relations practices and a keenness to broaden their skills base working in a major performing arts environment.
In addition you will have:
Tertiary Qualifications in communications or equivalent experience 3+ years' experience as a publicist Experience in arts, entertainment or tourism publicity (preferred) Extensive contacts in Australian media (preferred) Appointment to this position is subject to the position holder having residency status and/or possessing a visa with work rights.
