The Role:
As the Senior Workplace Relations Lead, you will lead the charge in shaping Merri-Bek's workplace and industrial relations framework.
Reporting directly to the Manager People and Safety, this critical role combines strategic oversight with operational expertise to ensure the delivery of high-quality IR/ER/HR advice and coaching aligns with organisational objectives.
Managing a dedicated team of HR Business Partners and specialists, you will drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, policy, performance, and workplace culture.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Workplace Relations Lead will champion the delivery of effective and high-quality employee and industrial relations advice and services, ensuring alignment with Council objectives and legislative requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing expert advice, coaching, and support to the HR Business Partnering team and key stakeholders.
Managing employee relations cases and representing Council at tribunals.
Fostering strong relationships with unions and internal partners.
Overseeing change management processes and workforce planning.
Optimising HR systems and delivering accurate reporting and metrics.
Developing and reviewing HR policies and procedures.
Leading HR projects and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensuring a positive team culture and supporting capability development.
About you:
To excel in this role, you will have a degree or postgraduate qualification in HR, Business, or a related field (highly desirable), alongside extensive experience in workplace and industrial relations within a unionised environment.
Proven leadership skills, expertise in HR legislation, and a collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement are essential.
Your ability to lead organisational change and deliver innovative solutions will be highly valued.
