The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
The Quality and Innovation Unit provides leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, programs, models and policies for improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Well-being.
The Unit will develop and manage to maturity; enhanced service delivery models in new and expanded functional IUIH services and programs.
About the RoleThe IUIH Public Health Physician is responsible for contributing to the ongoing development and implementation of IUIH Network Public Health policy, planning, response, and workforce development across SEQ.
Day to Day Duties:Development and ongoing improvement of health prevention and promotion systems, services, programs and campaigns.Application of evidence-based approaches to address key determinants of health which contribute to inequity in health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in urban SEQ e.g.
climate change, immunisation coverage and tobacco.Influencing Public Health policy and planning, including assisting in the drafting of submissions in response to national and state public health policy as it impacts on the health and well-being of urban Indigenous people.Development and implementation of contextualized public health response(s) in the context of disease outbreaks and / or changing patterns of disease transmission.Ongoing improvement in the collection, collation and analysis of data to improve understanding of population health.Working with internal and external stakeholders to advocate for systems changes in public health to support First Nations Health Equity in SEQ.Supporting the development of Public Health knowledge and capacity both formally and informally across the IUIH Network, including growing and developing pathways for undergraduate and postgraduate Public Health training and placements in the Network.About YouFellowship of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine (FAFPHM) a senior public health registrar who has passed examinations may also be considered for the role.APHRA Registration (unrestricted).Current Medical Indemnity Insurance.Current Criminal History Check.Current CPR Certificate.Desirable, but not mandatory:Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and/or communities.What Can We Offer?At IUIH we recognise that we operate in a diverse community and welcome and encourage applications from all ages and genders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse groups, the LGBTIQ+ community, veterans, refugees, and people with disability.
