The Public Affairs Manager is responsible for leading APNA's Advocacy Strategy including government relations, policy, representation activity and strategic stakeholder engagement. You will lead a team that includes policy, communications and data analytics capabilities, as well as great spokespeople.

Responsibilities
Lead the advocacy team to develop and implement an advocacy and government relations strategy, garnering internal and external stakeholder supportLead the development and implementation of advocacy campaigns, including use of APNA communication channels and representation groups to drive policy changeProvide advice and briefings on matters related to engagement with Commonwealth, state and territory governments and other external governance bodies as it relates to primary health care nursingAct as a spokesperson for APNA, including strategic committees, lobbying and mediaKeep abreast of the political and policy environment; identify and manage opportunities to advance APNA's advocacy objectivesProvide briefings and high-quality reports to the executive and the Board on the advocacy and government relations strategiesCoach and manage the advocacy team, including prioritising work and ensuring high-quality deliveryEssential skills and qualifications
Substantive government relations and advocacy experienceWell-developed understanding of government processes, the policy cycle, the political landscape and political stakeholdersExperience developing and leading advocacy and government relations strategies and campaignsAbility to navigate an environment of change and ambiguity and identify potential solutionsHigh level communication skills, including strategic negotiationExcellent writing skills with experience in preparing strategic documents for executive external and internal audiencesTertiary qualification in a public/health policy, political science, legal, communications or related field8-10 years' experience in a similar rolePrevious experience in a departmental or political staffer rolePost-graduate qualifications in a related fieldPrevious experience with media, including acting as a media spokespersonPrevious experience in health care or with a health peak body.Remuneration package based on skills and experience.
