The school is well established, has excellent facilities and has provided outstanding education for local children since 1978. Iramoo has a tradition of promoting student excellence in literacy, numeracy, Physical Education/sports and all areas of the Arts. The school currently also provides students with specialised classes in Spanish language and Digital Technology including a 1:1 iPad program for all students from Years 4 -6.
Iramoo currently has a population of 550 students in 2024, this allows the school to maintain relatively small class sizes with a current average of approximately 24 students per grade arranged in single year level classes from Prep to Year 6. Iramoo is a richly diverse community where our students develop strong intercultural understanding, tolerance and respectful relationships with others.
Iramoo is extremely well resourced and has modern buildings and grounds that are maintained to a high standard. The school's very well presented classrooms and impressive external environment have been greatly enhanced by major landscaping works in recent years providing students with six adventure playgrounds in addition to several very attractive outdoor learning and passive recreation areas.
The purpose of Iramoo Primary School is to create an environment in which children thrive and all available human and physical resources are devoted to this goal.
Selection Criteria Have appropriate qualifications and demonstrate experience relating directly to the position.Demonstrate the ability to deliver a comprehensive psychology service to Iramoo Primary School including psychological assessments.Demonstrate the ability to provide professional advice, consultation and support regarding the development and wellbeing of students in line with the Child Safe Standards and Code of Conduct to the Principal, teachers, parents and school community.Demonstrate the ability to design and deliver professional learning, preferably for members of the school community.Demonstrate the capacity to work as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary professional team and contribute significantly to improved school outcomes.Demonstrate highly developed interpersonal and communication skills in individual, small group and community contexts.Role The psychologist will liaise with the Assistant Principal, Welfare & Wellbeing who oversees the school referrals process. The psychologist's role in the school is primarily to assess and treat students who have been identified by the school as having psychological, emotional, learning and behavioural challenges. The psychologist will liaise with teachers and parents about the student and provide information, educational support and guidance and strategies to assist in the student's development.
The psychologist and Assistant Principal will make decisions about assessments and/or therapies required for each student referred and the psychologist will conduct assessments as required.
Responsibilities The psychologist will also:
Support the school with PSD applications, supporting letters and reports.Conduct professional development for individuals, groups and the whole school community to enhance staff knowledge and build capacity in relation to various mental health conditions and how students can be best supported in the learning environment.Provide teachers and the school with specific goals and strategies for Individual Learning Plans.Attend Student Support Group meetings if/when required.Make referrals to community and department agencies and liaise with other health professionals supporting the student.Develop Behaviour Management and Safety Plans.Run small group sessions for students with specific focuses, i.e. managing anxiety, social skills, etc.Act in a professional, confidential manner and child safe manner.Provide copies of WWCC and act as a mandated reporter and in accordance with our school's Child Safety Code of Conduct.Maintain student information and records to meet legislative and school requirements.Who May Apply Must hold a Bachelor qualification or specialist/post graduate qualification where applicable in psychology.Must be fully registered by the Psychology Board of Australia.Have demonstrated counselling experience.Hold a current Working with Children Check.The school-based psychologist will be employed for the 2025 school year, fixed term subject to equity funding.
