Primary objective: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Offender Services Team conducts comprehensive discipline-specific assessments and engages with internal and external stakeholders to support people in custody living with a disability to gain access to the NDIS.
The Psychologist conducts comprehensive clinical assessments and recommendations to prisoners in the custody of the Department of Corrections, who are suspected of having a disability.
They also provide professional input into appropriate management, treatment plans, and contribute to policy and practice development, as well as provide peer consultation, training, and professional support to colleagues as required.
Key duties and responsibilities: Undertake clinical assessments, needs assessments, develop clinical formulations, and appropriate treatment plans, and write assessment and treatment reports for prisoners in custody.Facilitate individual and/or group-based offence specific and offence related programs for prisoners as required.Liaise and consult with internal and external stakeholders on issues relevant to the management of offenders to ensure coordinated case management.Provide input into the preparation of individual sentence and management/case plans for prisoners.Apply sound theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the development, delivery and evaluation of programs and services.Be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team, participate in clinical supervision and ongoing professional development and training.Provide evaluation on programs, assessments, and reports as required and maintain accurate, legible, and proficient client case notes, records, and statistics.Carry out duties as requested by the Principal Advisor Offender Services.Selection criteria: Essential: Tertiary qualifications in psychology with unconditional registration to practice as a psychologist in Australia via Psychology Board of Australia/AHPRA and eligibility for membership of the Australian Psychological Society.Knowledge of cognitive or disability related clinical assessment techniques.Provide advice and support regarding the assessment and management of prisoners with severe behaviours of concern, complex mental health issues or disability.Maintain professional development logs and complete activities in accordance with their affiliated registration authority.Teaching skills in assessment and risk management on a group and individual basis and forming and running case conferences.Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and to deal with highly sensitive information, in accordance with the Code of Conduct and the Privacy Act.Desirable: Experience working within a custodial environment with high-risk mental health and disability residents.Further information: The Department of the Attorney-General and Justice (NT Correctional Services Division) has a Smoke Free Policy.
