We are seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced medical practitioners to commence as an Advanced Trainee in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry with us at Austin Health. Several positions are available, accredited with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) Advanced Training Certificate program.
Positions are available for commencement on 5 February 2025, with part-time options also available. For Advanced Trainees in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, fixed-term contracts will be provided until candidates are expected to achieve Fellowship (up to two years).
About Psychiatry Training at Austin Health The Mental Health Division at Austin Health offers registrars a comprehensive training in psychiatry through a broad range of learning experiences, in a supportive and collegiate working environment.
The Advanced Trainee in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry has a range of learning opportunities available to them, including rotations with liaison relationships with the Statewide Spinal Rehabilitation and Liver Transplant Services, Austin's Neurology and Renal Services, and oncology and palliative care services provided through the Oliva Newton-John Cancer Centre. External secondments are also available to the Mercy Hospital for Women and Curran Place Perinatal Detoxification Service. Specific training experiences also exist within the Consultation-Liaison service to work with young people, the elderly, and in addiction psychiatry.
Austin Health is home to a neuropsychiatry service offering inpatient and community assessment and treatment to those living with neuropsychiatric disorders, their carers and professional supports. Registrars can attend the Functional Neurology Clinic, a unique learning experience supported by Professor Richard Kanaan. Opportunities for leadership exist within the team, ideal for registrars nearing Fellowship.
The successful candidate may access Austin Health's many other training experiences outside of the Consultation-Liaison team, including in parent-infant mental health, eating disorders, and psychological trauma services, with external secondments also available to a range of private services.
Austin Health trainees can expect a collegiate, inclusive, and supportive environment which values trainee welfare, development, and training success. Trainees may access the formal ANZ Consultation-Liaison education program, supported by senior medical staff, and other CL-relevant teaching programs. Specific educational programs exist for junior trainees and for RANZCP examination candidates, as well as opportunities to be involved for research, medical student teaching and service leadership.
To be successful in this role you must: Be an accredited Stage 3 Trainee in the RANZCP Fellowship Program, or a Specialist International Medical Graduate eligible for a RANZCP comparability placement.Be accepted into an RANZCP Advanced Training Certificate program, ideally in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
