Katherine Hospital and the bigger Katherine Region are looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide cover for three months when the incumbent psychiatrist goes on Sabbatical leave from 1 October to 20 December 2024. This position is primarily a community post providing specialist mental health care within a multidisciplinary team to the rural and remote area of the Top End in the Northern Territory.Responsibilities include:Visits to remote communities.Support to the local regional hospital via the emergency department.Support to the DMOs in making admission decisions.Involvement in planning discharge from the inpatient service in Darwin.You will be well supported by a vibrant and knowledgeable mental health team including nurses, OT, social workers, and psychologists. This post has no on-call responsibilities, allowing you to enjoy the grandeur of the outback and discover a region full of gorges, misty waterfalls, thermal springs, and ancient cultures.The challenges and opportunities in health and community care in the Territory are unique, from remote Aboriginal health to tropical health and urban tertiary care. You will be provided with family accommodation, a car, and flights to Darwin as appropriate. Most people in the region reside in small remote communities or on cattle stations.
