Mackay Hospital and Health Service offers a comprehensive range of mental health services, including an acute mental health inpatient facility with 24 beds and a Step-Up Step-Down Unit with 6 beds. Community Mental Health Services encompass an Acute Care Service, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Continuing Care Team, Mobile Intensive Rehabilitation Team, Early Psychosis, Child and Youth Mental Health, Older Persons Mental Health, and Alcohol & Other Drugs Service. Rural communities are serviced by outreach teams in the Moranbah and Whitsunday area.
In addition to the Community Child and Youth Mental Health Service, we have an Assertive Mobile Youth Outreach Service, which forms part of an integrated continuum of care for adolescents requiring mental health treatment. Services are based in Mackay, with limited outreach to Bowen, Moranbah, and Sarina. The Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU) at the MBH has two designated mental health beds for crisis intervention cases and links with the Townsville Adolescent Unit for prolonged admissions.
