We have several exciting opportunities for trainees looking for general or sub-speciality ANZCA pre-approved provisional fellowships (regional, retrieval medicine). Trainees interested in education, or human factors, are also invited to apply for our sub-specialty simulation-based fellowships. Applicants with experience equivalent to four years of ANZCA training, or those embarking on the ANZCA SIMG pathway, may be considered for appointment. Where you'll be working Anaesthesia training at the John Hunter Hospital campus will give you a rare opportunity to be involved in anaesthesia across the lifespan all at the same location. We offer adult, paediatric, trauma, cardiothoracic, neuro (including interventional radiology), complex head & neck, major vascular and obstetric anaesthesia. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to participate in our active and well-regarded regional and perioperative services and, for successful applicants, the Hunter Retrieval Service which provides primary and secondary retrieval services across the entire district. Interested trainees can apply to work 0.5FTE in the HNE Simulation Centre (HNESC) which is one of the busiest and longest running centres in Australia. The centre provides training to practising clinicians from all disciplines and support for patient safety and systems improvement initiatives; this position would suit trainees with an interest in education or Human Factors and systems improvement. Newcastle is geographically blessed with stunning beaches, inland waterways, coastal walks, great sporting teams, a great sense of community spirit, and close proximity to both the Hunter Valley and Port Stephens. We have everything except traffic What you'll be doing Successful candidates will provide supervised, specialist clinical services to the patients of the HNE area whilst undertaking learning and professional development opportunities towards the attainment of Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Our fellowship positions provide an excellent opportunity for trainees seeking consolidation of their skills and autonomy in a supported environment. When applying, please note the sub-speciality you wish to apply for. You will have the opportunity to work, with support, on our consultant after hours roster. Our fellows consider this to be one of the most valuable aspects of the fellowship as it assists with the transition from registrar to consultant. Candidates successful in their appointment as anaesthesia/simulation fellows will work 50% time with the HNESC and 50% time in anaesthesia. As part of the simulation team, you will learn how to develop, run and debrief team-based simulations for both educational and systems improvement purposes. Candidates successful in their appointment as retrieval/anaesthesia fellows will work 50% time with the Hunter Retrieval Service and 50% time in anaesthesia. Opportunities for part-time training are available by negotiation. There are several positions available for both 6 and 12 months including mid-year starts.
