WSLHD - Provisional Fellow, Cardiac - Anaesthesia Employment Type : Temporary Various Remuneration : - Hours Per Week : 38 Requisition ID : CAM22050 Provisional Fellow in Cardiac Anaesthesia Where you'll be working Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia's largest major he a lth and medical research precincts and is the principal referral ho s pital for Western Sydney Local Health District providi n g district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs in c luding tertiary and quaternary services to greater Western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. The Westmead He a lth Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the largest hospital building pro j ect undertaken in Western Sydney and will transform the iconic but ageing Westmead H ospital into an innovative, contemporary, and integrated centre that wi l l continue to deliver high quality healthcare and e x pand the education, health, and research c a pability o f th e area. Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training a nd specialisation in all fields of Medicine and Dentistry, providi n g services in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosur g ery, Kidney and Pancreas transplantation, Cancer Care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ne o natal Intensive Care, Trauma, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Critical Care, Aged Care a nd Rehabilitation, Adult Acute Psyc h iatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other specialis e d medical and surgical services. Westmead Hospital is also the principal referral centre for other metropolitan hospitals within the district incl u ding Auburn Hospital, Blacktown a nd Mount Druitt Hospital. Intensive care service in Westmead hospital includes 36 general, and 10 post cardiothoracic surgical ICU beds. Cardiothoracic ICU has also recently moved into a newly built ICU pod. Common ICU admissions include complex medical cases such as sepsis, severe respiratory or cardiac failure, complicated bone marrow transplant, and surgical cases including trauma, neurosurgery, vascular, cardiothoracic, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, upper GI, hepatobiliary, and colorectal procedures. What you'll be doing Dedicated one-on-one training in transthoracic (TTE) and transoesophageal (TOE) echocardiography in cardiology and cardiac anaesthesia, with expectation of proficiency within 12 months. Support for achieving peri-operative TOE qualifications during the PF year. Exposure to clinical perfusion and ECMO. Regular cardiac lists, including bypass surgery and thoracic surgery. Westmead is also a specialist centre for congenital heart disease and you will have exposure to a wide range of procedures and surgeries both within the cardiac catheter laboratory and theatres for adults with congenital heart disease. Training in perioperative cardiac patient optimisation through pre-admission clinics and the cardiac anaesthetic perioperative group. Training for providing TTE sessions for the anaesthetic department. Opportunities for audit and research in cardiac anaesthesia, interventional cardiology and perioperative echo. Supervision Arrangements The ANZCA Trainee is supervised by a FANZCA Consultant. ANZCA On Call Consultants on Cardiac, General and Obstetric rosters work on rotating roster and are contactable 24 hours per day, either in person or via telephone after hours. SELECTION CRITERIA: MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category Completed four years of accredited anaesthetic training with ANZCA Successfully completed the final part ANZCA examination. Able to work in Anaesthesia under supervision and to work weekends and after-hours in the specialty area and work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilizing excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services. Adept verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences Must be able to provide excellent references from current consultant supervisors including the Head of Department. Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of anaesthesia and a demonstrated interest in clinical audit or research.
