SESLHD covers urban and suburban communities and manages eight public hospitals and one public nursing home: • Calvary Healthcare Sydney (third schedule with Little Company of Mary Health Care) • Prince of Wales Hospital • Royal Hospital for Women • St George Hospital • Sutherland Hospital • Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital • War Memorial Hospital (third schedule with Uniting Care) • Gower Wilson Memorial • Garrawarra Centre SESLHD also operates 28 Child and Family Health Centres, 12 Community Health Centres and nine Oral Health Clinics; providing prevention, early intervention and community-based treatment, palliative care and rehabilitation services. Drug and Alcohol, Mental Health, Breast screening, HIV/AIDS, Public Health, Women's Health, Youth Health, Sexual Health, Imaging and Pathology services are provided at a number of facilities across SESLHD. Where you'll be working The primary location of this position will be St George Hospital. The St George Hospital is a 760-bed major teaching hospital of the University of NSW, and is a tertiary referral hospital in the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. It is Level 1 Trauma Centre and has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the state. The case mix includes the following surgical specialties – cardiothoracic, vascular, orthopaedic, obstetrics/ gynaecology, neurosurgery, trauma, gynaecology, plastics, ear/nose/ throat, maxillofacial, urologic, breast/ endocrine, and some paediatric surgery. Most elective orthopaedic, hand and ophthalmic surgery is not performed at St George. An unwavering commitment to diversity, inclusion and belonging What you'll be doing The Provisional Fellow position at the St George Hospital is structured to allow trainees to practise at a more senior level, and in addition to elective and emergency clinical anaesthesia, Provisional Fellows can be involved in teaching, supervision of junior trainees, research, quality assurance activities and departmental administration. The year is designed as a bridge to consultant practice with the following aims: 1. Gain experience at a more senior level in the provision of anaesthesia, with the goal of achieving independent practice 2. Gain further experience in the subspecialty area of simulation and medical education. This will include learning how to create, organise, run, and debrief simulations and workshops. This will be facilitated through regular sessions for anaesthetic registrars, and a range of other simulation activities with theatre staff and multidisciplinary groups throughout the hospital. Mentoring in feedback and debriefing will occur throughout the year. 3. Further experience can be arranged in trauma, major oncological surgery, cardiothoracics, and obstetrics. 4. Gain experience in the management of the operating suite and in triage as the Duty Anaesthetist. SESLHD is committed to creating a workplace that reflects the diversity of our community. All Category A applicants must read and understand NSW Health Policy PD2024_015. Successful applicants to the role must provide vaccination history and pathology as part of the application documentation and be certified as compliant before employment can commence. A link will be provided once deemed successful. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia. Completion of at least four years of anaesthetic training. Final examination successfully completed or currently sitting, or at an equivalent stage of training. The ability to work in a complex clinical environment. Demonstrated teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills in the clinical setting. An interest in undertaking research, teaching/simulation. Previous teaching or research experience.
