Sustaining this is all the more critical and challenging as greater electrification of homes, fleets, and industries becomes a core strategy for reducing carbon emissions and addressing climate change.We value inclusive leadership and teams and celebrate the results of succeeding together.But our greatest priority is the health, safety, and wellbeing of our people and the communities we operate within.About the role:The Protection & Control engineer is responsible for optimising the performance of secondary assets (i.e. protection, control, operational metering, monitoring schemes) through the analysis, development, and implementation of cost-effective asset management plans, policies, and standards, in order to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the network.This role has coverage across the United Energy, CitiPower, and Powercor electricity distribution networks, and Australian Energy Operations and Powercor Transmission assets.What you'll deliver:Develop, maintain and communicate engineering policies, standards, technical specifications, processes and procedures for secondary assets that support sustained business performance whilst ensuring alignment with recognised standards and compliance with statutory, licence and regulatory obligations.Prepare and review technical scopes of works for projects and other works on the network.Develop and maintain lifecycle management plans and long-term investment plans for secondary assets to feed into the business planning cycle and business approval process.Follow a risk framework aligned with the corporate risk model for a structured and systematic assessment of risk associated with the operation of assets.Develop and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including asset management, design, delivery and operational teams, customers, regulatory and industry bodies to ensure business outcomes are achieved.Prepare asset and business reports as required for both internal and external stakeholders.To succeed in the role, you'll have:Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.When eligible, it is mandatory to obtain and maintain a Registered engineering credential with the Victorian Business Licensing Authority.Demonstrated experience in asset management and/or protection & control applications.Technical report writing skills.Previous experience in electricity utility desirable.Good understanding and knowledge of protection & control schemes for assets including feeders, busbars, lines, capacitor banks, transformers, and distributed energy resources.Good understanding and knowledge of resonant earthing, utility grade standards & protocols like IEC61850 & DNP3.0, synchrophasors, protection & metering class current & voltage transformers, ac and dc auxiliary supply systems, local and wide area network control and automation schemes.Clear understanding of the role that SCADA & distribution management systems and related communication systems play in the operational support of electricity distribution networks.Experience with industrial IP networking and/or writing scripts/querying large data sets is highly desirable.Your career with us:We have a diversity of teams across our business, all contributing to great customer and community outcomes.
