Part Time , Fixed term contract until 30 June 2025 Flexible work hours & days | Responsive and supportive leadership SCHCADS Level 5 49.28 p/h + Super+ PBI salary packaging Join our team to create a project that amplifies the voices of children and young people in foster care, ensuring their views are heard and helping to contribute to the Charter of Rights for children in care.
The Role Project Officer will work in Centacare's Foster Care program, which provides both specialist and general foster care for children aged 0-17 years in immediate, short term, long term and respite placements.
The Project Officer will work closely with the Foster Care team to plan and implement a new initiative within the foster care program.
The Project Officer will play a key role in designing and executing a time limited project that amplifies and captures the voices of children and young people in foster care and their foster siblings, ensuring that their perspectives are heard and respected in decisions affecting their lives.
Through the project, the role will contribute to the Charter of Rights for children and young people in care.
The key duties in this role will include:   With DCP content, development and implementation of a time limited project focused on capturing the voices of children in foster care, with an emphasis on ensuring their views are considered in the program's services and policies.
Implement child-friendly approaches and tools to engage children and gather their feedback in a way that is meaningful and accessible keeping in mind age, communication preferences, cultural background and disability Design and facilitate participatory activities, surveys, interviews, and forums where children can express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
Collaborate with foster carers, case workers, and other stakeholders to integrate children's input into case planning, care decisions, and the development of best practices, within the scope of this time-limited project.
About You We are looking for a dedicated professional with experience in child advocacy and foster care systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, the ability to engage with children and stakeholders, and experience in project development.
A commitment to culturally safe practices and understanding the challenges faced by children in care is essential.
Essential Criteria Social Work qualification Training or certifications in child advocacy, participation, or rights-based approaches.
Valid Department of Human Services (DHS) Working with Children Check Understanding of child rights, foster care systems, and the importance of including children in decision-making processes.
Proven experience in project development, particularly in community or the In Care sector Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, foster carers, and a variety of stakeholders.
Ability to design and implement child-friendly research methods and participatory activities.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
Sensitivity and empathy towards the challenges faced by children in foster care and a commitment to their well-being.
Sensitivity and empathy towards the challenges faced by Aboriginal children in foster care, and a commitment to culturally safe and responsive engagement.
Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including foster carers and case workers.
