Project Manager Space Weather And Spaceflight

Project Manager Space Weather And Spaceflight
Company:

Australian Bureau Of Meteorology

Details of the offer

Project Manager Space Weather and Spaceflight The Bureau of Meteorology is seeking a dedicated, highly talented Project Manager to fill the role of the Project Manager Space Weather and Spaceflight.
The ideal candidate would relish the challenge of working in an environment which is focused on providing support to customers affected by space weather and maturing the Bureau's spaceflight capability.
Coordinating deliverables across the Bureau's space weather and spaceflight capability, the role takes concepts from the National Security and Space Program (NSSP) Engagement Leads and the Australian Space Weather Forecasting Centre (ASWFC) management and operational areas and works those concepts into deliverables such as products and services; and maintains oversight of work right across the space weather capability.
The Project Manager Space Weather and Spaceflight reports to Manager National Security and Space Capability (EL2).
The NSSP sits within the Bureau's Business Solutions Group (BSG) and is the primary provider of environmental intelligence to national security agencies, specifically supporting the Department of Defence - primarily the ADF and Space Command, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The Bureau's space weather and spaceflight capabilities are particularly focused on the aviation, energy & resources, defence, space, emergency management, and community sectors.
The Bureau is maturing its space weather capability to best support government partners and key industry sectors with persistent, timely, and accurate space weather warnings and alerts so they are best prepared to take appropriate action to mitigate against space weather events.
The spaceflight capability is evolving to support commercial launch campaigns, re-entry and returns, and in-orbit space operations, combining meteorological and space weather information into a single dedicated weather service in support of Australia's burgeoning Space sector.
Key to this support is the provision of real-time observations, expert advice to assist decision making and planning, and direct support to operations and strategic planning.
The ASWFC is based at Lot Fourteen in Adelaide, where our government partners are well established.
This role works collaboratively with the Space Weather Engagement team, Manager of the ASWFC, Spaceflight Operations Manager, Space Weather Networks and ICT, and Space Weather Research to Operations team.
We are seeking the services of a project manager experienced in space weather through the lens of national security, with the ability to instil a project management mindset within the team and lead, manage and oversee the delivery of a large portfolio of projects and ongoing services within an environment that is developing new ways of working together.
The position requires outstanding people skills and a can-do approach to working with staff at Executive Level 1 and 2 who directly support key customer sectors and operational areas by distilling their needs into deliverable projects.
They should also be very comfortable working closely with technical staff undertaking the research, development, observations, and forecasting.
The role would be well suited to someone with a project management background in any of the key customer segments (aviation, defence, energy, community, and space) who can turn ideas into outcomes.
They should be comfortable with uncertainty, managing competing priorities, adaptable and prepared to work in an environment where program and project methodology is developing, seeking to be a participant and leader in shaping this environment and process.
They should also have strong relationship management skills and understand how to tailor governance and processes based on each project's characteristics to ensure the right level of control.
An ability to develop and manage agreements and arrangements between agencies and customers is strongly desirable.
Some interstate travel may be required to engage with sectors and Bureau staff.
