What you'll do
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager (PM) to lead the delivery of a Space Based Augmentation System (SBAS) project for the Australian Government. The PM will be part of an exciting and growing team of highly competent project and engineering professionals who will deliver the project and its capability. As the PM, you will oversee project management activities, ensuring the program is delivered on time, within budget, and maintain regular communication/reporting to internal and external stakeholders. You will be the primary point of contact on the project with the Customer and Viasat Global Space Networks (GSN) team, driving collaboration and maintaining effective project controls. The candidate is also expected to write and maintain project management plans as well as manage project risks and contract changes.
This full-time role is based in Sydney, offering flexible home/office working arrangements with occasional travel required.
The day-to-day Lead and direct the project team to achieve schedule and budgetary requirements / objectives outlined in the management plans and project scheduleDevelop and maintain project Master Schedule to align with program milestones and reporting requirementsProvide the Senior Project Manager (SMP), and the Customer with comprehensive weekly, monthly, quarterly reports on project performance, specifically Master ScheduleDevelop and maintain key project documents such as Project Management Plan, Service Management Plan, Work Breakdown Structure, etc.Support the SMP in chairing monthly and quarterly progress reviews with the GSN team and CustomerAct as the focal point of contact between Viasat GSN Team and the Customer, fostering strong, positive relationships across all partiesLead risk identification, assessment and mitigation effort, conduct regular risk reviews, and maintain an up-to-date risk registerCollaborate with contracts and legal teams to review and finalise contract change requestsImplement and maintain processes to ensure quality and consistency in project activities and outputsWorking within the Viasat IG Strategic Programmes delivery frameworks and methodologiesTo be aware of and comply with Company Standards of Conduct and all relevant statutory requirementsPerform additional tasks as reasonably requested by managementWhat you'll need Essential Knowledge and Skills: 4-5 years of project / program management experience in long and complex programs, ideally in satellite communications / space / navigation / defence programmesProven experience in managing inter-dependent project and program schedules, applying project management framework, and delivering projects using industry-standard methodologies and toolsAbility to produce key project management plansStrong skills in MS Project, MS Visio, SharePoint, and MS Office applicationsProven ability to lead teams in challenging environments with a collaborative mindsetDegree in an engineering discipline (electrical / electronic, aerospace, computer systems, or similar) preferred.Desirable Knowledge and Skills: Certifications: APM, PRINCE2, Agile, PMI, PMBOK or equivalent certificationsSatellite program experience is advantageous but not essentialWhat will help you on the job: Highly organised, detail-oriented and self-motivated, with the ability to remain positive under high pressure environmentsStrong relationship-building skills, confident, and articulate when engaging with customer, senior leaders and peersCritical thinking and problem-solving capabilitiesEEO Statement
