The Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group is currently seeking three EL 1 Project Managers within the Infrastructure Directorate. The positions are located at Canberra ACT and Henderson WA. The Project Managers are accountable under broad direction to perform and achieve complex to very complex project management work within an integrated workforce. They will require an in-depth knowledge of legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission. They will exercise a considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role. You will exercise sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. You will have in-depth knowledge of the Project Management functions and will be responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to their work within that function. You will engage in complex to very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes for Defence. The roles are accountable to plan, lead and manage a range of human and physical resources and exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes. You will develop and implement work plans, set performance indicators, and review individual, team and business performance, focusing on identifying opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement. You will set work that align with the strategic objectives and communicate expected outcomes. The roles will be responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify relevant stakeholders' expectations and concerns to develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. You will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of your work area. This role has staff management responsibilities, and will involve occasional interstate travel. About our Team

A Program Management Office is currently being established within the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG) for the Infrastructure Directorate to deliver Defence's large vessel infrastructure mega-project, within the Henderson Consolidation Program at Henderson, WA. The Infrastructure Directorate supports portfolio level decision-making and provides a consistent approach to the management of shipbuilding and sustainment infrastructure, by optimising usage of current assets, analysing future demand against planned capability and capacity, sponsoring required enhancements, and maintaining effective stakeholder engagement across Defence, Industry, and State and Territory Governments. The Directorate works very closely with key stakeholders within Defence, with external Commonwealth and State agencies, and with contract organisations. Demonstrate highly developed written communication skills and have experience in drafting high-level key documents (project reports, plans/processes, briefing materials, and ministerial correspondence). Possess strong self-management skills to deliver required outputs to tight deadlines, and support and manage a team of integrated professionals to achieve results. Demonstrate ability to review and analyse documents for accuracy and completeness. Decide and initiate action - take responsibility, take calculated risks, show initiative, and generate activity. Analyse information – probe for clarity, produce solutions, make judgements, and think systematically. Adapt and respond to change - accept new ideas, adapt to interpersonal styles, show sensitivity to different cultures or backgrounds and deal with ambiguity at work. Manage and support project processes to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory frameworks, as well as Government probity related principles. Exercise initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. Develop governance and assurance frameworks, monitor compliance, and coordinate project governance meetings. Build and sustain effective relationships with team members and actively participates in teamwork and group activities. Lead and supervise - set direction and standards, delegate, motivate, empower and develop others. Remain committed to working within a dynamic team that provides high-quality output within very tight timeframes.
