ABOUT APO NT Aboriginal Peak Organisations of the Northern Territory – APO NT – is an alliance comprising the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA), Central Land Council (CLC), Northern Land Council (NLC), Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC), Tiwi Land Council (TLC), Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance of the NT (AMSANT), Aboriginal Housing NT (AHNT) and NT Indigenous Business Network (NT IBN). The Alliance was created to provide a more effective response to key issues of joint interest and concern affecting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory.
APO NT is committed to delivering the Priority Reforms under The Closing the Gap National Agreement, including formal and shared decision making between Aboriginal people and governments and expanding opportunities for Aboriginal community control and self-determination.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Project Manager reports directly to the APO NT Manager.
DUTIES Apply high level strategic, policy, project and planning guidance and advice to projects and policy that are important to Aboriginal leaders of APO NT member organisations. This will include preparing submissions, briefing papers and reports as required. Lead a small team to engage and coordinate the input and direction from the APO NT Governing Group regarding key projects and priorities including future funding investment to replace the NT Remote Aboriginal Investment package. Consolidate a range of expert advice as it applies to the project to be presented other key stakeholders. Working closely with the APO NT Manager to provide managerial direction, support, and supervision to staff, including conducting annual performance reviews. Attend meetings with Aboriginal leaders and organisations, Commonwealth and NT Government Ministers and senior officials, including coordinating external meetings and briefing documents relevant to the engagement. Conduct and coordinate external meetings, programs, workshops, and other APO NT events. Lead a small team to develop and maintain close linkages with Member and Aboriginal organisations at a local, territory and national level as well as engage with NT and Commonwealth Government partners, as necessary. Other duties as directed SELECTION CRITERIA Essential: An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the political, social, cultural, and economic circumstances facing Aboriginal people and communities across the Northern Territory and nationally. Relevant experience and expertise in the Aboriginal Community Controlled sector and working in Aboriginal affairs. Demonstrated high level interpersonal and written communication skills, including maintaining linkages across a diverse network of Aboriginal people and organisations, Government agencies, Non-Government Organisations and with elected officials. Experience in cross-cultural situations. Able to apply problem solving skills and techniques in complex and at times sensitive situations. Experience in managing and supervising a dynamic team and resolve operational, policy or project issues in situations of change. Ability to work constructively to achieve the strategic priorities of APO NT and empower a team to deliver on a set of key tasks and achieve positive outcomes. Brings adaptability and flexibility to the work environment. An ability to manage competing and pressing priorities. High level experience in research policy analysis and development. Ability to travel to and work from remote locations. Current Driver's licence. Satisfactory Criminal History Check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practice. A current Ochre Card or the ability to gain. Desirable: Tertiary qualifications in the social sciences, political science, law or economics, or similar relevant work experience.
