We are seeking to recruit a range of high-performing, experienced, project management leaders to fill critical vacancies across four Defence Delivery Groups and the Australian Submarine Agency.
Specific Occupations include Project Manager, Program Director, Product Director and Project Director.
You will perform an important leadership role, working with considerable independence and be accountable to perform and achieve very complex project management work within an integrated workforce. You will be required to have extensive knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policies requirements.
Key duties may include:
Provide leadership and management of a multi-disciplined project team and supervise and oversee all aspects of very complex project activities including finance, commercial, technical, risk, schedule, human resources and industry relationships. Accountable for managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people. Provide strategic advice to senior management, project teams and stakeholders on whole of life considerations. Review established technical, operational, professional and administrative activities, procedures, practices and project management methodologies and advise on the development of project management best practice and Defence reform initiatives. Integrate risk and opportunity management into planning, decision-making and priority setting. Build and sustain a network of key stakeholders, communicate with influence and negotiate effectively. Engage and influence Defence senior leadership and provide key link between senior executives and Defence employees. Assess and evaluate project performance against agreed plans and implement strategies to achieve project outcomes. Initiate resolution of issues by identifying and developing solutions through analysis of alternative courses of action and their implications. Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements, share own expertise with others, guide and mentor less experienced staff and work collaboratively to achieve business outcomes. Some roles within this recruitment activity may be eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability.

Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG): CASG exists to meet the Australian Defence Force's (ADF) military equipment and supply requirements, identified by Defence and approved by Government. Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Group (GWEO): GWEO's mission is to deliver an Enterprise with a focus on domestic manufacture, long-range strike and uplifting our war stocks enabling the Australian Defence Force, in competition and conflict. Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG): NSSG is responsible for delivering and sustaining Australia's naval capability – the ships and submarines – for Australia to be able to fight and win at sea. Defence Digital Group (DDG): DDG has three core priorities: building best-in-class people to support DDG's efforts, underpinned by best-in-class global platforms, supported by best-in-class sovereign capabilities. The Australian Submarine Agency (ASA): ASA was established on 1 July 2023 and is responsible and accountable for the management and oversight of Australia's nuclear-powered submarine program.
