Project Geologist - Business DevelopmentSQM Australia Pty Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile S.A (SQM or the SQM Group).
SQM group is one of the largest lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide producers in the world and a producer of potassium nitrate and iodine worldwide.

SQM's products are sold in over 110 countries through its worldwide distribution network.To advance the group's vision of developing a stable supply of responsibly produced critical minerals, SQM group has partnered with industry-leading companies including two joint ventures: the Mt Holland project with Australia's Wesfarmers Limited and Hancock Prospecting to develop the Andover project.
Both projects are in Western Australia.The RoleReporting to the Senior Geologist - Business Development, the Project Geologist will use their expertise to contribute to the exploration and discovery of new lithium resources both in Western Australia, and globally.
The Project Geologist will assist in the daily tracking and reporting of lithium exploration and mining activities globally, with a focus on identifying investment opportunities for SQM.
Ad hoc site visits may be required as part of due diligence processes which the company may be involved in, or to assist in the management of existing deals which SQM have with third parties (within Australia and globally).It is expected that the Project Geologist will have the interpersonal skills to represent the company at conferences and build a network within the lithium industry.
This role is primarily based in our Perth office but may require up to 6 months field work (on flexible rosters), based on operational requirements.Qualifications & ExperienceTertiary qualification in Geology (or similar)3+ years of relevant industry experience (Lithium experience will be highly regarded).Strong interpersonal and networking skills.The ability to work both independently and in a team environment.Display strong analytical and critical thinking skills.Experience with Health & Safety regulations and procedures.Experience with relevant geological software (GIS, ioGAS, and Leapfrog desirable).Tasks & ResponsibilitiesAdhering to, and promoting SQM corporate values: Excellence, Safety, Integrity and Sustainability.Taking personal responsibility to ensure that assigned tasks and project executions are conducted in a safe manner, using, and maintaining SQM tools such as standard work procedures, hazard analyses, routine inspections, and behavioural observations.Developing, updating, promoting, and adhering to SQM internal methodologies, policies, procedures, and standards by consistently maintaining a high quality of work across all allocated functions.Conduct project work and handle work tasks as required by the Senior Geologist.Assist in the development of a high-quality lithium exploration project portfolio in Western Australia and globally.Effectively communicate results and recommendations to team members and management.Collaborate in the implementation of QAQC procedures and review and reporting of QAQC data, internally for SQM and in active collaboration with third parties.Establish and maintain effective lines of communication within the organisation, working alongside international geology teams within the SQM organisation.Provide informed commentary on company strategy, value creation opportunities and risk management.Provide technical expertise and hands-on assistance to the exploration team and third parties as required.Work within the Business Development team and collaboratively with the M & A team to identify and evaluate new lithium projects and early exploration opportunities.Contribution to a working environment which is conducive to creative ideas and open discussion.The primary office location is in CBD Perth.
