The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.Project scope includes:Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each directionCivil, Mechanical and Electrical fitout of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnelsSurface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah FreewayThe OpportunityACCIONA is seeking a dedicated TBM Project Engineer to be an integral part of our team on this groundbreaking project. As a TBM Project Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring successful TBM operations.This role offers a unique opportunity to work on a landmark project that will have a lasting impact on the community. If you are passionate about engineering, safety, and teamwork, we invite you to be part of this exciting venture.Key accountabilities for the position:Align TBM activities with project timelines, budgets, quality standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.Provide technical guidance and planning support to workforce members, supervisors, and subcontractors for efficient TBM operations.Oversee daily TBM operations, including managing shift teams, monitoring production metrics, troubleshooting issues, and optimising performance.Coordinate hyperbaric interventions (work in compressed air) and ensure the safe and efficient installation of precast tunnel lining segments and culverts.Record and report shift activities, including production, costs, progress, and operational challenges, to senior engineering teams.Implement and enforce safety protocols, conduct routine equipment inspections, and manage maintenance to minimise downtime.Liaise with site management and support functions to ensure timely resource delivery and adherence to project timelines.Prepare, implement, and monitor Work Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Safe Operating Procedures across work areas.Lead, train, and develop Tunnel Shift Engineers and personnel to align their skills with operational needs and ensure effective performance.Ensure quality, safety, and environmental compliance while maintaining accurate cost control and addressing technical, commercial, and quality matters.Required Skills and CompetenciesCapability & Experience you will need to have:Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or related Engineering field.Prior experience with TBM tunnelling (preferably slurry shield TBMs).Understanding of hyperbaric operations (working in compressed air) preferred.Willingness to work on a rotating dayshift/nightshift roster 5 days a week (Monday to Friday). Dependent on-site conditions, there may be a need for the TBMs to operate 24/7 to meet operational requirements.Proven ability to manage teams in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.Solid knowledge of safety standards and quality control in tunnelling and construction environments.Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams and stakeholders.ACCIONA promotes equality and diversity.
