Introduction to the role
Eku Energy develops, constructs, owns and operates a global portfolio of battery energy storage assets with a mission to accelerate the green energy transition by providing firming capacity and other security and reliability services to the grid.
As an electrical Project Engineer, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for the design, contracting and delivery of our energy storage projects.
In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders, gaining valuable insights into the development and operational phases of projects combined with hands-on experience on some of Australia's most significant battery energy storage projects.
Based in Sydney or Melbourne, you will work closely within our dynamic team and report to the Delivery Lead, with a dotted reporting line to the APAC Technical Lead.
The Project Engineer's key responsibility is to manage the technical interfaces on the delivery of Eku Energy's BESS project pipeline in Australia, contributing to our mission of driving the transition towards a low-carbon, sustainable global economy through innovative battery storage investments.

Responsibilities of the role
Provide comprehensive engineering support to delivery management teams for the successful realisation of project assets. Manage the technical interfaces between Eku, our BESS supply partners, balance of plant construction contractors, NSPs and AEMO during project delivery. Act as the technical representative for Eku during project delivery with key project stakeholders including Network Service Providers and AEMO. Act as a champion for health and safety within Eku, while also supporting WHSE (Work Health Safety Environment) initiatives at Delivery partner sites. Interface with the Owner's Engineer and construction contractor's design teams to support project design and construction activities, ensuring that projects are delivered in accordance with all technical specifications and applicable standards. Coordination of design reviews, risk assessments and project reporting. Undertake regular site visits and report on project status, key issues and risks. Review project control elements implemented by delivery partners, including project schedules, critical path analysis, progress dashboards, and monthly reports. Evaluate delivery partner payment claims by assessing project progress. Assist in the quality control and completion process through attending Owner's Engineer-led quality walkdowns. Ownership of the technical handover between the delivery team and Eku Energy's asset management team, and ongoing technical support to asset management. Assist the project delivery team in social licensing efforts and engage with external stakeholders as required. Assist in early-stage project planning by providing technical input to the development and project delivery teams, including layout, geotechnical considerations, fire safety measures, cable schedules, equipment specifications, and the preliminary design of interconnection arrangements. Competencies of the role
Essential:
Electrical Engineering or Electrician qualification with minimum 5 years of experience working on the delivery of utility-scale power generation assets > 5MW.
Must have site-based experience.Strong understanding of high-voltage electrical design principles.Good understanding of commercial and contract law – ability to review contracts from an engineering perspective, develop obligation registers, and enforce contractual requirements.Familiar with project scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera).Competent with MS Office suite – excel reporting.Ability to travel.Desirable:
Experience with the interconnection and commissioning process of utility-scale power generation assets.Knowledge of SCADA systems and PLC programming.Experience with electrical protection engineering design and operation.AutoCAD capability.Familiarity with PSSE, PSCAD, e-Tap and other electrical power simulation tools.Experience preparing HV switching sheets.Familiarity with AEMO Generator Registration and R1 Testing processes.Competencies required of all our people
