Project Engineer

Details of the offer

Do you love finding out how something works? Or do you think you could design it better? Engineers use careful analysis and creative thinking to solve complex problems. They harness creativity to explore bold new solutions. Many engineers lead teams to design, build and maintain Australia's railways. They're excellent communicators because they need to explain their ideas and collaborate with other people on projects.
What are some example projects or experiences?Project engineers determine which construction methods and materials are most suited for a rail project. They play a key role in supporting large-scale rail developments in our big cities, as well as small scale projects in remote areas. Their work requires them to develop specifications, plans, and drawings. They also develop project documentation, and will often conduct site surveys to confirm that a site is suitable for the proposed works. They may participate in project procurement alongside project delivery teams, including principle contractors and subcontractors. During a project, they will visit the site to make sure everything is coming together as planned. They may conduct an audit to ensure compliance, and will keep track of project costs and revenue.
What is the work environment like? You'll work in a team of engineers and skilled tradespeople. You might work in an office, planning the construction of a new passenger rail line. Or you could work on a construction site managing the day-to-day activities of an infrastructure upgrade project. You can find work as a project engineer all around Australia. Most jobs are in cities and towns. Some are in remote areas.
Project engineers typically complete a university degree. They may come from a variety of specialisations in engineering but usually have developed civil engineering knowledge. Project management credentials are also highly regarded. Our industry values diverse personal and work experience. Many employers can provide you with opportunities to gain additional qualifications and industry experience to help you succeed.
Salaries may vary outside of these ranges, based on company size and location, level of experience, competence and time in role.
