Primary objective
Provides high level project control services to the Rum Jungle Rehabilitation Project through project management systems, reporting and
controls. Provides regular reports and updates to the Project Services Manager on scope, schedule, quality and cost.
Context statement
The Northern Territory Government (NTG), in partnership with the Commonwealth, have been developing a leading practice rehabilitation
strategy for the former Rum Jungle mine site since 2009. Stage 3 of the rehabilitation project will deliver the complete construction and
works program. The workplace is characterised by changing priorities, rapid turn-around times and requires considerable resilience and
flexibility.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop fit for purpose project control systems. Manage control system data inputs to ensure accurate up to date systems that
support business decision making.
2. Implement and report against the schedule for the project, using appropriate systems (e.g., MS Project, Primavera 6).
3. Working closely with the Project Management team, create and maintain the work schedule against the project budget.
4. Provide support to the Managers including updating the Risk Management Plan, maintenance of the Risk Register, and supporting
members with risk identification, development and management.
5. Analyse progress against schedules and budgets.
6. Audit progress to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
7. Minimise variance where possible and recommend actions to improve progress or deal with current or impending issues.
8. Maintain a visible on-site presence and participate in the day-to-day site management to stay abreast of issues and developments.
9. Provide reports on all aspects of controls on a regular basis; as well exception reports if/when variance exceeds agreed parameters.
10. Working closely with the Senior Project Administrator to forecast costs and report against budget.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree in Civil Engineering or similar field.
2. Previous experience in a Project Control role for a large scale civil or mining project.
3. Experience in scheduling & reporting analysis for complex projects.
4. Proven professional civil engineering advice to Stakeholders on all phases of design / documentation and delivery of all services
provided by the Project.
5. Demonstrated experience in complex contract management and supervision preferably including construction, defects liability, bulk
earthworks, water treatment, haul roads, hydraulics, drainage, structures, street lights and traffic management etc.
6. High level written and verbal communication skills in presentations, contractual correspondence, briefings and authority submissions
including the ability to clearly articulate complex concepts and critical issues with simplicity.
7. Experience in a project management role, delivering results against a schedule, finance performance and planning using a range of
systems and reporting tools to manage to established outcomes.
8. Demonstrated cross cultural awareness, understanding and knowledge, including a sound understanding of cultural sensitivities and
needs in working with Aboriginal people.
