The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.
The Multiprofession policy team, which sits within the Strategy and Policy Directorate, works across all professions to build Ahpra's regulatory policy function by leading shared policies, improving existing policies, growing policy capability and promoting the value of consistency across the National Scheme, with the aim of achieving best possible outcomes for the public, practitioners, Ahpra and the National Boards.
Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Policy, this position supports Ahpra in its regulatory work through progressing the implementation and delivery of policy and relevant projects relating to recommendations from the Independent Review of Overseas Health Practitioners Regulatory Settings (the Kruk Review).
A key focus of the role is to support a review of the English language skills and supervised practice requirements for internationally qualified health practitioners seeking registration in Australia, and to look at safe and more flexible ways that applicants may be able to meet these requirements, facilitating the community's access to health services.
You will be an integral member of the policy team and play a lead role in coordinating the delivery of organisational policy, as well as some multiprofession policy. You will contribute to identifying opportunities for improvement, problem solving and work across teams to implement initiatives and solutions. Supporting the team members with high level administrative, secretariat and coordination expertise and advice.
Acting as the key expert and reference point for policy administration, you will demonstrate excellent policy administration knowledge. You will lead the design and development of efficient and consistent administrative processes and systems to support the management of policy development and review in collaboration with team members, and interfacing with other teams across the business, the Boards and external stakeholders.
This is a newly created team, specifically founded for the Kruk project, as such there will be multiple positions recruited.
This is a full time, fixed term (until July 2025, with possible extension) role, preferred location is Brisbane or Melbourne, applications outside this jurisdiction are welcomed.
In this role you will: Contribute specialist policy administration advice to build capability and inform the effective and efficient operation of Ahpra's policy functionLead coordination and support project management of the new Ahpra wide policy repository initiative and other multiprofession policy initiativesSupport the Manager Strategic Policy to implement the multiprofession policy work plan through coordination of project and advisory group meetings, project management documentation, stakeholder communications and consultation activitiesLead the organisational wide design and development of new efficient and consistent administrative policies and processes relating to the policy repository initiative and other MPP projects as required in collaboration with the MPP teamCoordinate the development and implementation of a comprehensive ongoing strategy communication and engagement plan with key stakeholders, about the policy repository initiativeAs the ideal candidate, you will demonstrate the following: A relevant Tertiary qualification and/or relevant combination of skills and experience within a regulatory body, government, or large organisationDemonstrated experience in the provision of high level and quality administrative and/or project support role in a complex and high-volume environmentAbility to acquire skills in the application of legislative, policy and procedure requirements as they relate to a regulatory environmentAdvanced organisation skills including advanced time management skills plus the ability to prioritise workload in response to time critical targets.Qualifications in, or an understanding of, project management tools and methodology will be highly regarded.If you would like to be part of this work and contribute to access to safer healthcare, we would love to hear from you.
