Grow your career in a unique local government area ensuring development assessment & statutory land use planning functions are completed effectively.
Isaac Regional Council is looking for a Program Leader Development who is ready to accelerate their career in one of the most unique local government areas in Australia.
You will lead Council's development assessment functions, dealing with a range of development assessment matters, applicants and land uses. This role is unique in the breadth of exposure that it provides across a range of industry sectors. From dealing with some of the world's largest mining proponents to being at the forefront of the region's rapidly growing renewables sector, there are opportunities to challenge yourself, make a positive change to a regional council, and grow your career.
The role is responsible for leading the delivery of council's development assessment functions and leading a small but passionate team comprised of a technical officer and student planner. The role is supported by a Manager and Executive Team and works closely with a range of consulting planners and engineers who support Council in delivering their development assessment functions.
To be successful, you will be a strategic leader and enabler for team growth and development, bringing your planning experience from either government or consultancy. Confident communication skills are essential with the ability to engage with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels. You are a strong negotiator and have influencing skills to reach compromise for the benefit of the Council and community. You bring an aptitude for the development and implementation of strategies to achieve positive outcomes, and a passion for continuous improvement of systems and processes especially in the digital space.
You will be able to prepare complex technical reports, briefs, documentation, and correspondence on land use planning and related matters and will be given a high level of exposure to elected members and Council's Executive Team. You will also represent Council on planning panels, court hearings, advisory bodies, and other relevant forums regarding land use planning matters.
Ideally, you'll have Tertiary qualifications in Land Use Planning or a similar field, or significant demonstrated experience in a relevant role. You will be adept at working with diverse stakeholders to gain an in-depth understanding of issues to solve problems. The role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a progressive council, tackling complex planning issues that larger councils may not provide. You'll have the chance to grow professionally while contributing to innovative solutions that shape our community's future.
Council is realistic in the challenges faced to attract and retain planners and as such are supportive of offering flexible and hybrid work conditions for this position. While Council embraces remote work, their preference is for a candidate who is committed to living in the region permanently and is pleased to offer relocation allowance, subsidized housing, and limited use of a private vehicle.
The Isaac Region encompasses a vast area, extending 120 kilometers along the stunning Great Barrier Reef coastline and over 400 kilometers inland through rich agricultural and grazing lands, as well as premier metallurgical coal production sites.
