Professor of First Nations Transdisciplinary ResearchFull time, fixed term appointment until December 2028Research Focused Academic Level E Salary - $189,150Plus 17% superannuation and 4/6 weeks annual leave (dependent on work location)Casuarina, Alice Springs, Brisbane or Sydney Campus Provide leadership on a strategic research program with a transdisciplinary approach to improving health and wellbeing for First Nations communities About the PositionThe Molly Wardaguga Institute for First Nations Birth Rights (Molly Institute) was established in honour of the Burarra Elder and midwife, Molly Wardaguga (1938-2009), who worked extensively to improve health outcomes, with a vision of returning the control of First Nations birthing services to First Nations communities. The Institute works toward Molly's vision by supporting First Nations communities to realise their aspirations for birthing, maternal and infant healthcare.
In developing and applying First Nations research methodologies and embedding Indigenous Data Sovereignty Framework with our research partners, the Professor of First Nations Transdisciplinary Research will contribute to leadership within the Research and Innovation team. Underpinned by the RISE Framework, our research program will espouse First Nations research protocols that adhere to Indigenous data sovereignty principles. Leading the development of research outputs, outcomes, and capabilities in areas of health service research, Indigenous research methodologies, Nation (Re)Building, public health within an integrated approach focusing on health and wellness of children, mothers, and families.
About YouTo be successful, you will require:
A PhD or professional doctorate in a relevant discipline and a distinguished academic and/or professional record in First Nations health, particularly in the areas of child and maternal health and/or rural and remote health.Demonstrated record of original, innovative, and distinguished contributions to research, scholarship, and teaching as demonstrated through sustained and distinguished performance.Demonstrated leadership and academic administration experience in academic program development and coordination.Extensive experience working in a culturally safe manner with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, and organisation representatives and communities in a work context in urban and remote clinical and/or research and/or education settings.Proven experience working effectively with First Nations people and communities which demonstrates leading culturally safe practice to meet the expectations of First Nations peoples especially in the area of Indigenous data sovereignty principles.Well-developed interpersonal communication and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to build collaborative partnerships with a variety of stakeholders from diverse cultures at a variety of levels, internal and external to the institute.Demonstrable success in attracting competitive research funding and other income, exceptional research collaborations and partnerships, and high-quality research outputs.Experience working in complex multidisciplinary health research projects and demonstrated achievements in research project planning and management, and program implementation.Experience in successful management of complex multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional settings.Demonstrated written communication skills with the ability to write and finalise project reports, ethics and governance applications, and funding applications, conference papers, and articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals.Demonstrated experience in supervising postgraduate students at Honours, Master's, and PhD level.RemunerationAppointment to this role will be at Research Focused Academic Level E. The base salary will be $189,150 per annum. The total remuneration package will be $221,305 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
