Our school
The School of Architecture and Built Environment aligns its teaching and research under the broad theme of architecture with impact. The discipline is committed to regional urbanism, the challenges of working in an age of climactic crisis and of thinking with Indigenous practitioners and communities in working with Country.
Located within the College of Engineering, Science and Environment, the School sits within the STEM+M research and teaching environment, contributing distinctive educational pedagogy and research skills through practice and problem-based learning and research. The School aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly with SDG – Goal 11 – "Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable". They follow the strategic direction provided by UON Global Impact Clusters, with particular contribution to research of quality, depth and impact focused on Strong Cities, Communities and Regions.

The Professor is a recognised global leader in the discipline of Architecture and has international standing in research through design practice. The School is looking for a Professor who can demonstrate exceptionally distinguished scholarly achievements and will, in turn, be recognised as an eminent international authority in their discipline.
If successful, you will have the opportunity to develop, coordinate and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as undertake business development and recruitment of international and domestic HDR students. You will mentor academic staff to develop the School's collective research profile and lead the School's thematic research area of Design Research, adopting an interactive learning environment focused on real-world issues.
How will you inspire us
The successful candidates will have:

Completed a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing in Architecture or related area.
Demonstrated significant record of impactful publications or non-traditional research outputs in high-quality outlets, with evidence of both international and national research collaborations and partnerships.
Demonstrated recent record of leadership in leading major funding initiatives and application for external research funding and guiding the development of more junior academic staff and researchers.
Skills in active and effective record of supervising honours and master's research projects and Higher Degree by Research students successfully to timely completion as the primary supervisor.
Demonstrated ability in mentoring staff and assisting them in delivery quality teaching, research, and service.
Demonstrated recent ability to achieve teaching quality as indicated by internal and external surveys and outcomes for students that will improve or innovate in response to feedback.
Demonstrated distinguished record of scholarly teaching and leadership across all levels and appropriate contexts.
Demonstrated significant contribution to the governance of the University, including successful mentoring of more junior academic staff and developing policy and providing leadership in community activities.

Additional desirable skills include:

Demonstrated research track record and/or professional practice expertise in designing resilient communities which focuses on at least one of the following sub areas:
Post Industrial City and Regional revitalisation
Co-Design and Socially Engaged Design
Reflective Creative Practice
Proven leadership and well-established track record in Design Research.
Proven leadership and demonstrated excellence in delivering architectural design studios with distinctive, innovative teaching methodologies and impactful "live studio projects."
