Production, Planning & Scheduling (Manufacturing, Transport & Logistics) Full time Role Overview:The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the metal fabrication production department. This role ensures that manufacturing processes are carried out efficiently, safely, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining the highest quality standards. The Production Manager will lead a team of skilled tradespeople & apprentices and work closely with other departments such as engineering, purchasing, and quality control to optimize production workflow, improve efficiency, and meet customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities: Production Planning and SchedulingDevelop, implement, and oversee production schedules to meet project deadlines.Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and the sales team to understand project specifications and timelines.Adjust schedules and resources to accommodate changes in design or unforeseen production issues.Monitor progress and performance against targets and KPIs, ensuring efficient use of materials, labour, and machinery.Team ManagementSupervise and lead a team of fabricators, welders, machinists, and other production staff.Delegate tasks and responsibilities, ensuring that team members are properly trained and equipped to complete their work safely and efficiently.Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.Assist in onboarding of factory team members.Address conflicts, handle disciplinary actions, and ensure compliance with workplace policies.Quality Control and ComplianceEnsure that all products meet the company's quality standards and customer specifications.Implement and maintain ISO standards or other relevant certifications where applicable.Collaborate with the quality assurance team to troubleshoot and resolve production issues.Oversee final inspections and ensure that non-conforming products are identified and addressed.Health, Safety, and Environmental StandardsEnforce health and safety regulations in the workplace, ensuring compliance with local and industry-specific safety standards.Conduct regular safety meetings and audits to maintain a safe working environment.Lead initiatives to reduce waste, improve sustainability, and comply with environmental regulations.Process Optimization and Continuous ImprovementAnalyse production processes and identify areas for improvement in efficiency, cost reduction, and lead time.Implement lean manufacturing principles and other process improvement initiatives to enhance production output and reduce waste.Collaborate with engineers to integrate new technologies and methods into production.Inventory and Resource ManagementMonitor and manage raw material and finished product inventory levels.Coordinate with purchasing to ensure timely ordering of materials and supplies.Minimize material waste and optimize resource allocation to maintain cost control.Experience with ERP or MRP systems.Budgeting and Cost ControlPrepare and manage the production department's budget, ensuring that production costs are kept within budgetary constraints.Work with the management team to analyse production costs, labour expenses, and materials, making adjustments where necessary.Review and approve expenditures for production-related purchases.Please get in touch with Dean Jones at E. or M. .
