Production Manager(Post-Harvest, Medicinal Cannabis)
JOB SUMMARY:Seeking an experienced and dedicated Post-Harvest Manager to lead the production and manufacturing activities at a regional site, North West of Melbourne. This critical role ensures the delivery of high-quality, safe medicinal products through effective planning, supervision, and adherence to GMP and regulatory requirements.

ROLE/DESCRIPTION:As the Post-Harvest Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all operations related to post-harvest processing, ensuring that production runs efficiently and in compliance with strict regulatory and safety standards. This leadership role requires a hands-on approach to managing both people and processes.
Key responsibilities include:
Team Leadership:Manage and lead a team of post-harvest supervisors and technicians, ensuring they are adequately trained, motivated, and supported in their roles. Foster a positive, collaborative, and safety-first culture within the team. Lead performance management activities, including setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and ensuring professional development opportunities for all team members.
Quality & Safety Oversight:Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all stages of the post-harvest process, guaranteeing that all products meet the highest standards for safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Conduct regular audits and inspections, ensuring all procedures are followed rigorously, including those for cleanliness, sanitation, and environmental controls.
Operational Planning & Execution:Develop and implement detailed production schedules and workflows to optimise resource allocation and ensure timely order fulfilment. Work closely with other departments, including the Quality and Supply Chain teams, to ensure that production goals are aligned with business objectives and all orders are delivered on time and in full.
Process Improvement:Lead initiatives for continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity. Work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure that all equipment is in good working order and that necessary maintenance activities are carried out on time.
Regulatory Compliance:Ensure that all post-harvest processes comply with industry regulations, including those specific to medicinal cannabis production. Work closely with the Quality team to manage and investigate deviations, reporting any issues to senior management and taking appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
Data & Documentation Management:Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of all required production documentation, including batch records, timekeeping, and inventory logs. Ensure compliance with internal systems and regulatory standards, using ERP software to track production data and maintain inventory accuracy.
Collaboration & Reporting:Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve any operational challenges that arise. Regularly report on production performance to senior management, providing insights into key metrics, variances, and any issues that may affect timelines or quality.
Staffing & Resource Management:Monitor workforce productivity and schedule requirements, ensuring that labour is used efficiently and in line with operational needs. Oversee the hiring, training, and development of team members to build a capable and efficient post-harvest department.
REQUIREMENTS:
Degree in production, manufacturing, or a related field (highly regarded).
Extensive experience in production or manufacturing, ideally in pharmaceutical, food, or related industries.
Leadership experience with the ability to manage and mentor a team.
In-depth knowledge of GMP standards and regulatory requirements (medical cannabis experience is advantageous).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proficiency in ERP software and Microsoft Office tools.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
