Our client is a well-established player in the design and construction of mobile camps offering vital services to clients who operate in some of the most remote and demanding industries.The RoleQuick Camps are seeking a highly skilled "hands on" Workshop Manager / Production Manager for a small, dynamic workshop specialising in building portable mobile camps.
Reporting to the General Manager, this individual will be responsible for managing all aspects of the workshop's operations, including overseeing the workshop team, purchasing, inventory management, and scheduling.
The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and organisational skills to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality portable mobile camp units on time and within budget.Key Responsibilities:Workshop Management:Oversee daily operations of the workshop, ensuring that the team adheres to safety standards, quality expectations, and project deadlines.Supervise a small but highly dedicated and skilled team, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.Train and mentor team members, driving continuous improvement and ensuring high-quality workmanship.Fabrication and Fitout:Lead the design and construction of mobile camp units, focusing on structural integrity, functionality, and quality craftsmanship.Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with project specifications, safety standards, and design requirements.Troubleshoot and resolve any technical or design issues that arise during the fabrication process.Purchasing and Inventory Management:Manage the purchasing of materials required for building mobile camps, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maintaining high standards of quality.Maintain accurate inventory records, keeping track of raw materials, tools, and other workshop supplies.Establish and manage relationships with suppliers, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of materials.Ensure that the workshop is stocked with necessary tools and materials, avoiding downtime due to shortages.Scheduling and Project Coordination:Create and manage project schedules to ensure that all tasks are completed on time and in accordance with customer requirements.Coordinate with internal and external clients to ensure that deliverables are met and expectations are aligned.Regularly report on project progress, delays, and any issues that may affect deadlines or budget.Devise, implement and drive effective plans to ensure any delays are addressed and deadlines are met.Safety and Compliance:Enforce strict safety protocols within the workshop, ensuring compliance with local regulations and industry best practices.Conduct regular safety training for the team and maintain a clean and organised workspace.Quality Control:Maintain quality control procedures throughout the production process to ensure the final product meets or exceeds expectations.Conduct regular inspections of the finished units to verify that they comply with all design specifications and quality standards.Candidate Profile:The ideal candidate would possess the following:Qualifications and Experience:Proven experience as a Head Carpenter, Shop Fitout, Workshop Manager or Business Owner in a similar environment (preferably in construction, prefab homes or mobile camp building).Extensive carpentry and/or shop fitout skills and experience, with a strong background in both traditional and modern techniques.Strong understanding of materials, tools, and machinery used in mobile camp construction.Experience in purchasing, managing inventory, and supplier negotiation.Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse group.Strong communication skills for reporting, coordinating, and troubleshooting.Knowledge of health and safety regulations, particularly in a workshop setting.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and technical documents.Proficient in project management tools, scheduling software, and inventory management systems.Desired Personal Attributes:Detail-oriented and committed to producing high-quality work.Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure.Highly proactive, resourceful, and self-motivated.A commitment to safety and fostering a positive work environment.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with other departments, clients, and external suppliers.
