The Product Development Engineer is responsible for leading new product development projects in the design and development of cordless power fastening tools and fastening consumables that meet defined timelines, marketing, and manufacturing requirements.
To be successful in this role you must apply engineering expertise, technical creativity and problem-solving skills.
Location: Melbourne | Fully Maintained Company Car | Hybrid role
The Impact You'll Make: Lead concept designs: Initiate and/or co-develop proof of concept designs based on end user feedback, develop those designs on 3D CAD.
Utilise feedback from team members and external end users to adapt and improve product design.
Engage IP counsel to discuss competitive IP risk, IP capture and agreements.Develop prototypes: Manage the production of physical prototypes using rapid prototyping principles to test, learn and iterate designs with continuous end user feedback.Develop product specifications: Collaborate with marketing, purchasing, manufacturing and other departments to construct project scope and determine costs and manufacturing feasibility.Design & validate the product: Work with strategic sourcing to finalise manufacturing supply chain and complete product costs.
Develop product test plans, participate in field validation, and lodge patent applications.About you: Degree in Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering, Master's Preferred;3+ years of relevant product design and development experience required;CAD Design/Modelling tools, preferred SOLIDWORKS;Exposure to manufacturing processes that may include, wire drawing, heading, threading, plastic injection, stamping, aluminium casting, machining, MIM;Materials testing & Metallurgy experience would be looked on favourably.Demonstrated design capability, problem solving skills and the ability to understand and troubleshoot electro-mechanical equipment;Experienced in cross-functional collaboration and teamwork to industrialise new products;Exposure to project management and technical leadership is a plus.Additional Information: Illinois Tool Works is an equal employment opportunity employer.
