The Product and Tooling Engineering Manager works within the Engineering and Facilities Services (EFS) Branch, providing holistic engineering and technical support for the design and manufacturing operations of the Mint.
They report to the Director of the EFS Branch and are responsible for leading a small team that provides technical services.
These services support the design and implementation of tooling to produce coins, tokens, medals and medallions.
This includes the development of master tools, coining dies and collars for the manufacture of individual products; mechanical design support for press tooling, production equipment and machinery; and the provision of engineering drafting services for coining dies, press tooling and mechanical parts.
Duties of this position include:
Analysing and advising on coin designs against established parameters to determine capability and potential risks during the production process, and providing engineering approval of the final design.
Designing, modifying and assessing master tools, coining dies and collars, and providing engineering approval.
Training and supporting a small team of engineers and technicians to assess coin designs for manufacturability, address coining production issues and provide support for press tooling.
Managing the drafting and approval of mechanical designs and engineering drawings to support production areas.
Overseeing the development of plans to address manufacturing risks, conducting product trials, and identifying and implementing measures to improve production capability.
Developing and maintaining the Product and Tooling team's procedures and guidelines ensuring alignment with the Quality Management System.
Engaging with internal and external stakeholders with various technical abilities to gather and provide information, and negotiate and manage production expectations.
Conducting independent research to identify and implement industry best practice.
Managing budgets in accordance with the Australian Government Financial Framework, Mint's financial procedures and financial delegations.
Qualification
A degree or diploma in a relevant field.
Security Clearance
This position requires a Baseline security clearance.
The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
