To obtain a copy of the Candidate Information Kit for this vacancy, please click on the 'Apply Online' button to the left of this advertisement.  The key duties of the position include: Employment OpportunityThe Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP) Section in the Office of Corporate Counsel is primarily responsible for processing the departments access to information requests under the FOI and Privacy Acts. The section is also responsible for coordinating and reporting on public interest disclosures (PID) and coordinating the departments contribution to the Government's regulatory reform agenda.  We are looking for a committed, dynamic and innovative Privacy Officer to join our team. Successful candidates are likely to have opportunities to undertake work across the sections diverse responsibilities, and to build professional networks across the department. As a Privacy Officer, you will exercise your strong statutory interpretation skills by working collaboratively with business areas to provide practical and solution-focused advice on a variety of complex, high-profile matters, including policy implementation and reforms, and program and legislative compliance. You will hone your decision-making abilities when assessing complex and significant privacy and FOI requests, including drafting submissions to senior decision makers within the department.  Privacy Officers engage proactively on privacy compliance, deliver privacy training to internal stakeholders, and work with the departments Privacy Champion to find new and innovative ways to promote privacy awareness. We also arrange privacy and PID training through the Australian Government Solicitor to enhance your specialist skills.How you can help us make a differenceThe vast majority of the sections work revolves around being able to work constructively with others, often in challenging circumstances. People who work for us will display leadership at all levels, apply information effectively in order to solve problems, and work collaboratively to achieve outcomes.Our ideal candidate will:assist the department to meet its compliance obligations under the Privacy Act, the Privacy Code, the Australian Privacy Principles, the PID Act, and the FOI Actprovide help and support to the departments Privacy Championprovide advice to, and work with, business areas on drafting Privacy Impact Assessments and Privacy Threat Assessmentsorganise and deliver training to staff about privacy and relevant legislative frameworksact as a Privacy Officer for the department, including liaising with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner in relation to privacy issuesrefine and develop best practice procedures and systems for the Privacy Unitbuild and maintain relationships with various internal and external stakeholdersliaise and consult on privacy and information access matterswork flexibly in response to changes in business demands.Other Qualifications: Legal qualifications are not essential but will be highly regarded. To be eligible for employment at the Attorney-General's Department applicants must be Australian citizens. Applicants offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a specified clearance level.
