In this role you will be leading a fast-paced and responsive team in a delivery-focused environment. We are looking for excellent leadership and performance management skills in addition to project management and grants program experience. One of the key roles of the team is to deliver the Great Artesian Basin capping and piping program. Your experience in engaging with rural stakeholders and knowledge of natural resource management will be highly valued.
You will have a track record of supporting teams to deliver complex projects whilst contributing to the high-performing team culture. A high level of professionalism and empathy, and the ability to make things happen, communicate and drive strategies to produce results and develop productive relationships are important attributes for this role.
The Department
The Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water (DRDMW) is dedicated to fostering growth across Queensland through sustainable water management, leading manufacturing innovation, and driving regional development. The Role
As the Principal Water Officer within the Basin Project Management Office, you will play a pivotal role in delivering grants programs and achieving natural resource outcomes. This is a fast-paced and dynamic environment where your leadership, project management expertise, and ability to collaborate with various stakeholders will be critical in meeting the department's goals.
You'll be responsible for ensuring effective governance, supporting complex project delivery, managing grants programs, and overseeing contractors and consultants. Additionally, you will be a key contributor to the high-performing team culture and help foster collaboration with internal and external partners, from local to federal government.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide expert advice on stakeholder engagement, project delivery, risk mitigation, and water policy.Ensure good governance and oversee procurement, research, and program analysis to support strategic initiatives.Manage and support the delivery of major grants programs and oversee contractor performance.Lead project planning, engagement strategies, and deliver outcomes in line with Queensland Government policy.Prepare complex reports, briefings, and presentations for senior management and government bodies.Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry, government, and non-government organizations.Represent the department at conferences and meetings, providing leadership in water resource management.Mentor and develop team members to achieve high performance.About YouProven leadership skills with experience in managing teams and delivering complex, high-value projects.Strong project management experience, particularly in natural resource management or related fields.Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.A strategic thinker who can make insightful decisions and drive accountability within the team.Ability to adapt quickly, manage resources effectively, and handle high-pressure situations.Experience in government or a similar sector is highly regarded.Role RequirementsWhile no mandatory qualifications are required, experience in delivering complex natural resource projects in a government context would be highly advantageous.Willingness to travel, including overnight stays, may be required for this role.The BenefitsBe part of a dynamic and supportive team that values innovation and collaboration.Opportunities for professional development and leadership growth.A respectful and inclusive work environment that celebrates diversity.Contribute to impactful water resource management across Queensland.Diversity and InclusionDRDMW is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within the workplace.
