The Opportunity As a Principal Urban Planner in the City of Perth, you will lead a team in the delivery of a best practice local planning scheme and local planning policies.
The focus of the position is the delivery of the new Local Planning Scheme No.
3 and a suite of local planning policies covering built form, character areas, heritage areas, servicing, environment, amenity,  and development incentives.
This is an important leadership role that supervises staff, while being a technical expert who provides professional advice to the organisation and key stakeholders.
A position that manages people, budgets, multiple projects; ensuring work is delivered on time and to a high quality.
Reporting to the Alliance Manager within our City Planning team, your responsibilities would primarily include: Leadership and mentorship of staff, including setting performance objectives, identifying development needs, tracking performance and providing coaching and mentoring which align with the needs of the Unit and the organisation; Taking the lead on the preparation, monitoring and review of best practice local planning schemes and local planning policies to guide the planning and development of the city; Providing specialist advice to senior management on Federal and State Government initiatives, policies and opportunities relating to the strategic planning of the city; and Maintenance of compliant work practices in accordance with all relevant legislation, recordkeeping frameworks, and all other relevant Council policies and procedures, and other frameworks.
About You To succeed in this role, you will possess: A tertiary qualification in town planning or an appropriate equivalent; Comprehensive knowledge and experience in implementing planning legislation and processes within government; Extensive experience in leading people and teams, and mentoring staff; and Significant experience in delivering local planning schemes and local planning policies in established urban areas.
