Zone Planning Group is a well-established Town Planning & Landscape Architecture consultancy which has experienced strong growth since its inception, offering a variety of challenging and unique work opportunities. Zone Planning NSW has offices based at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast and Moss Vale in the Southern Highlands region of NSW.
This position is a new, key role based out of the Burleigh Heads office. The position is preferably offered at a Principal Planner level although for the right candidate, applications at Senior Planner level will be considered. The position will work across all aspects of the business in the delivery of statutory and strategic planning expertise to both our private and public sector clients, including contributing to the growth of the business both in its professional profile and client base. This will include preparing fee proposals, managing projects autonomously (including clients and consultant teams) and complex report writing. The role would also support the Director with people coordination and quality assurance activities.
Your duties will include:
Actively undertake business development activities to generate new work for the Company.
Represent the Company as required at Planning and Development sector industry events and organisations (UDIA, PIA, Property Council & the like).
Strategising, thinking critically & creatively to navigate approval pathways.
Preparation of major / complex planning applications for a range of land use activities of varying complexity & scale, but particularly the more significant and challenging projects.
Preparation of project fee proposals, planning advisory, due diligence investigations.
Town Planning project management of varying developments and studies to ensure client outcomes are delivered on time and budget.
Undertake planning investigations of sites & preparation of planning advice to inform site development potential / highest & best use.
Be at the forefront of understanding & disseminating legislative / policy reform.
Monitor budget progress for jobs.
People coordination / supervision support.

Confident and articulate with outstanding interpersonal and client liaison skills.
Ability to communicate concisely (oral & written), negotiate persuasively and articulate your thoughts to a wide variety of audiences.
Be able to research and analyse information/data to develop a case or argument to ultimately justify an adopted position.
Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Ability to prioritise tasks & manage time to ensure multiple deadlines are met.
Be proactive and demonstrate initiative in dealings with clients and staff.
Applying critical thinking skills to solve problems and using a balance of technical competence, creativity, commerciality, and pragmatism.
The successful applicant will have:
Tertiary qualifications in a recognised Town Planning course (graduate Degree or post graduate degree) and preferably 10 + years' experience in a senior planning role within NSW.
Sound knowledge of the Environmental Planning & Assessment regime in NSW, including Act & regulations, allied legislation and Environmental Planning Instruments.
Strong report writing skills.
People coordination and supervision skills.
